Well, I traded in my 03 Monte Carlo SS a few months ago and picked up an 06 Mustang. The problem is that the box that my 2 12’s are in won’t fit in my trunk. So I looked at some few options and I’m not too sure what would be the best way to go. I know that I am going to replace all the stock speakers and run them with a JL e4300 and of course put in a head unit. My main question is with my subs.

I have 2 JL 12W1’s powered by a JL e1200. I saw a custom box on ebay for 1 12’s and was thinking about just buying it and using what I have now, but I don’t think what I have is that great. I wasn’t too impressed by the bass these subs and amp put out. I really don’t know much about car audio and I don’t want to go to a shop again cause it seems that I get screwed every time. Last time I got a huge gouge in my door sill and half my dash lights got burned out. What sucked was that in the SS the dash lights are led’s and had to be removed and new ones soldered into the board. Anyway, I am determined just to do this myself. I am thinking that I could get louder bass with one 12 and a bigger amp then with what I have now, so I was just thinking about selling the JL’s, box, and mono amp and just getting new stuff.

Anyone have recommendations of what I should do? I don’t know much about manufacture names so some products for me to look into would be good too; like what kind of sub(s), amp, box to go for. I definitely want something that hits hard but sounds good. Something that I can rattle windows with when I want, but enjoy music when I want too. But like everyone else, I don’t want to spend a lot of money, so the high end JL stuff is out of the question. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well technically 2 subs is 3x as loud as one. But I would personally sell your stuff and get 1 kicker L7 12" in a box. That sub is extremely loud and will definitely give you what you want. As for an amp, I personally like Phoenix Gold, but your JL amp might work. You'll have to check the wattage.

 

Thanks for the info. I checked out the sub that your talking about and there are a lot of good reviews. Another thing that I am confused about is when you read the specs of a sub and amp it gives you two different watts, and then the ohms. How do you know what sub goes with what amp?
