Default RE: electrical short???

Is it just one speaker or all speakers? The easiest case is if it is all. That means you have a short behind the head unit under the dash. Since all of the speakers only come together there, that's where the short has to be. If the Bass cuts out, but the high keeps running, it could be there or in the back (under shelf on coupe, under seat on vert)
Do the head unit lights flicker? If not, it's probably a short in the speaker wiring only. If they do, you are probably losing your main ground. All of these wires are in the same place, behind the head unit.
