How to get shaker 1000 subs to work with aftermarket head unit?
what do I have to do to get the shaker 1000 subs to work with an aftermarket headunit? I believe theres 2 subs in the door panels and the 2 in the trunk, I have RCA hook ups on my headunit for subs but where would I connect that to?
Thanks
Thanks
ok I guess I needed the smaller harness in this picture:

I guess I'll just splice an RCA cable into it if its not too hard...but what are the 2 blue wires for? Do I need to hook those up too?

You do need the second harness. It will connect to the subwoofer outputs of your aftermarket headunit - you didn't post what kind it was so I'll just assume for now that it does have the outputs. There have been several posts on how to properly hook up the RCA cables - essentially you need a Y cable - single RCA into dual RCA which looks like this:
The blue wires are your amp turnon leads - 5 volts will turn on the sub amps which are located in the front kick panels as well as the rear since you have a 1000. You need a voltage regulator which is available from Radio Shack - takes the 12 volts from your stereo and reduces it to 5 volts. There will be three connectors on the regulator - labeled on the packaging - input / ground / output. Connect your the blue or blue/white wire from your radio to the input, connect the ground to the stereo ground and the output goes to the blue wires on the harness pictured below. If this regulator is not in place you will get a pop when you first turn the radio on - mine actually still does it every once in a while - but apparently it doesn't do any damage so I'm not going to worry about it.
Good luck with your install!

thanks, they are sending me the harness....What do I have to do with the ebrake trick so it stays on while driving? Grounding it out doesnt work... I have one pink wire for it, does it need power? or ground? Also, my harness had 4 brown wires coming out of it but the headunit only had one solid brown and one brown/black any idea on what to do with those?
and where can I find a reverse signal wire for a 5-speed?
Thanks

Have most of it installed besides whats mentioned above but for some reason when I turn the car off and close the door the lights go off and teh headunit goes off but then it comes back on and again and goes off then the lights turn back on and it keeps repeating that pattern, if I turn off the headunit then take the key out everything is fine...Anyone know why it would do that?
Hi - not sure about the 4 brown wires coming out of the harness - are they coming out of the aftermarket HU? Which model do you have?
For the ebrake - the most common 'trick' is to use a switch which is connected to ground when engaged to make the HU think the ebrake is up. Some systems work by grounding the wire permanently, but most can detect if it's grounded all of the time - Kenwood and Pioneer for example. So just get a switch (not a momentary) and connect one wire to the wire coming out of the HU and then connect the other side to the system ground.
For the power issue - some radios have an option to not use the ACCessory input which tells the HU when the car is on. The radio will have constant power (yellow wire), ACC power (red wire) and ground (black wire). Check those connections - and maybe if I know which model HU you have I can provide a better answer. Did you hook up the dimmer (orange wire) to anything?
For the reverse wire, I installed a camera and tapped directly into the wiring harness going into the taillights. I didn't even look for the reverse switch since I knew I would be using the power from the reverse circuit to trigger the backup camera circuit and power the camera as well.

my headunit is the Jensen VM-9021TS, the four brown wires are coming out of the harness but the jensen headunit only has 2 brown that should be going to "Center"
I did hook up the yellow, red and black wires but did not hook up the orange wire, ill check those again but I dont think there was an orange on the harness
So your reverse camera switches to the camera screen when you put the car in reverse? I just thought it would be easier if there was a wire around the shifter that I could tap into instead of running another wire back to the trunk

the lights seem to be fine now, not sure what it was I did change a few settings on the headunit that got the ipod to work... without the subs hooked up is it normal for it to sound pretty bad? It seems like there is alot of distortion, obviously its not going to have alot of bass but for some reason the speaker quality seems like it went down
I pulled up the Jensen manual on the web and don't see where you would have 4 brown wires. I see a brown set of wires for a center channel but unless you've added one you will not use these connections. You may want to double check connections to the base speakers:
Front Left = white/black wire & white wire
Front Right = gray/black wire & gray wire
Rear Left = green/black wire & green wire
Rear Right = purple/black wire & purple wire
Double check your polarity to each speaker since the four speakers listed above should not sound worse than factory. If you've changed any of the audio settinngs, I would recommend doing a reset using the instructions in the manual as they can definitely have an adverse affect on sound quality.
For the reverse wire, I didn't even look in the center console near the shifter since I knew I would need to tap into the connector at the rear anyway to power the camera. Good luck.

finally got my sub harness...but just have one problem left...the Ebrake wire, I thought it was a pretty simple concept but I sware its playing tricks on me, I first grounded out the pick wire to the chasis, that didnt work, so I put the red wire coming off the ebrake to one part of a switch and the black part coming off the ebrake to the other terminal on the switch along with the pink wire from the headunit connected to the black wire... That didnt work, took it all apart touched the pink wire to ground and it worked! .. so I left it like that, worked for a few hours but it isnt working any more... Im guessing because it does need a switch..but why didnt it work the 1st time?
Thanks alot!
Thanks alot!
