The GPS is actually very useful. I've only had to use the actual directions abou 4-5 times but it works great. You can also search for restaurants, gas stations, banks, whatever you want. It's like haveing a yellow pages of the whole United States and Canada in your car. I use it all the time for finding phone numbers to make reservations, or to find a new restaurant. I didn't think I needed all of that either, but it's kinda cool.
