removing the factory radio in 2004 coupe
Hello all i own a 2004 mustang coupe 40th aniversary and i need to get behinde the radio to install a fm modulater kit on my xm radio. so that i can have clear channels but i need to reach the cars anrtenna cable and plug. i would like to know if anyone has done this in a 04 before or not?? also do i need to take the hole gear shaift middle console up to get to the radio? and or does just the fake screews on teh gear shift pop up and u can remove the plactic cover over the radio to revieve the screws to the radio?? any help would be apreacated thanks KG

If it's anything like the 00 coupe, which I think it is, all you really need to do is buy the Ford Radio Removal tools (like $5 at walmart). Or, you can try the hangar way (though, I did, and it didn't work. Hafta be just perfect with 'em.) They stick into the holes on either side of the radio, and you can pull it right out and have access to the antenna cable and power plugs. If you still hafta get back there, start by slowly and carefully prying up the shifter plastic. There are then 2x T20 screws you'll hafta do right under where the headunit radio was (and some even have 2x more T20 screws on the inside, connecting the console plastic to a crossbeam in the dash. A little monkeying around with a small screwdriver worked for me), and you can pull the panel off. Love my XM, hope you wil ltoo. =)
