CD player install "what do the wires do?"
Sorry to double post this but in the 2.3 section their help is well intentioned but SLOW. Does anyone have the wire diagram for the stock (not premo) stereo on a 1988 mustang? like what all the wires do... Any help is great as I am starting to run out of time to do this project.
Hopefully you havn't cut off the factory harness. You can purchase a new wireing harness (from Best buy, circuit city, even wal-mart) that will clip into your stock harness and it will give you labled cable to install a new stereo with.
there are a couple of different wiring systems that could be in there. Under the radio, is there a metal box that is octagonally shapped and has a bunch of holes in it? if so that is the amp for the premium sound system, if not then you have the standard. Once we establish this I can give you the color codes I have but you will still need to test them before you wire them up and turn it on.
Ok I got it installed now I got another problem. When I start the car the memory of the CD player is whiped, clock, settings, everything is rest, it is wired right and now I am a bit confused and I want to just throw the car in the lake, but I wont because I need the car. So... Any ideas on what I have to do to fix this issue?
Ok you have it hooked up wrong then. I am guessing you have a Multi-meter or some other way to check for power. Basically you donot have your 12volt supply hooked up correctly. It keepspower on your headunit so your settings donot get wiped everytime you turn it off. Basicaly from your cars old wiring system all you need is the Power(12V), Ignition, Ground, and speaker cables.
Find your ground, I usually just do a continuity check from all wires toa chassis ground. Connect that to new harness.
Make sure the car ignition is turned off and use which ever power checking device you have to look for your 12volts. That will hook to your power.
Then your going to want to find your ignition wire. Turn your key to the position just before starting your car then take your power checking device and look for another wire with 12 volts. After you fins this connect it to your ignition wire comming from the new unit.
Then unless you have a power ant or your hooking up an amp the only thing you have left to do is trace out your speaker wires.
When your making these connections you should be using atleast some crimping barrelsor soldering. What ever you do you don't wanna just twist them together and use electrical tape.

Yeah... to late on the twist thing, but what ever. I am going to re-connect the old harness and use a kit to make it right, should have done it in the first place but hell I aint that smart![:@]
