I have installed 4-5 hifonics amps for friends.

I had one catch fire due to defect and all the others have been great. They are great bang for the buck amps for driving subs. There amps sound fine for high/mids, but I prefer something of better quality.

I beleive diamond audio has a d3 series amp that puts out 400 watts rms at 2 ohms. Diamond is great stuff and I highly recommend it. Also check out elemental designs, PPI, and zapco. It really all depends on yourbudget.

for the price range your talking about, i had a autotek mean machine 1400.1 i got off ebay and tried it on 2 kicker comp vr 12s in a perfectly built sealed box and at 3/4 gain i smoked the voice coils in those kickers but i push very hard. the amp was very clean and powerful for the price. hit like mother%$##$% too!!!! she will run a 1 ohm load stable too without getting hot.

Those old autoteks were so underrated. I had the chance to buy one of those when putting together my setup, but went for something a little more sq and 90 amp alt friendly.Unfortonatly, hifonics tend to push just about the exact power they claim.

MOST ALL AMPS THESE DAYS DO, i had one of the old autotek 44 champagnes and it was sick. the punch 44 was the same way. the strongest amp for rating ive seen in the last 5 or 6 years was my fosgate bd 1001.1 it was rated at 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms and it bench tested 1011 watts at 2 ohms rms. but thats not nothing to make a big deal over.[:'(]
