I might be Cpt. Obvious, but have you checked for loose/crossed wires? Power, ground and speaker wires needs to be checked. Is it just coming from the sub?

Take care,

Na, that is fine if it is insulated by something already - what I am referring to is a possible little strand of wire that is not right or something.

It was simply a suggestion to make sure you checked for that sort of thing. Other then faulty equipment I have no other ideas. The reason I asked if it was just the sub, is then you can narrow it down to

The sub
The amp
or the outputs from the head unit.

that would be my guess. Could it be that they cross connected the subs in the box? I am not a guru on this stuff, so I am just throwing out ideas. Are you using a two channel amp and just hooking one channel to each sub? I'd hook each channel up one at a time to see if both channels are good. You've pretting much proven that your outputs are good. I would then hook a channel up to the other sub and see if the problem returns. If not and you hook both up and the problem is there, I'd take a hard look inside that box.

I know there are various ways to wire subs and amps, but I am not a guru. Maybe someone else on this board can provide more information on the ins and outs on that stuff. Cause if it comes down to how the amp/sub is wired, I will not be able to provide reliable information. I'm just trying to help you pinpoint where the problem is.

Take care,
Ceyko

well each sub has 8 guage wire coming out of teh box in seperate holes. then i had to use small speaker wire to get it all the way to the amp, i DEFF have my pos and neg correct. but why is my subs maxing out when the volume is off? I belive thats the key to the problem.

Dunno man that is why you are going to have to troubleshoot and figure it out. There is not a whole lot there to troubleshoot. Ya got the head unit and amp that can be providing a signal to the subs. Your going to have to figure out which one it is that is causing the problem.

Does your headunit have another set of outputs you can try?
