I pm'ed you, but wasn't sure if you got the message or if your inbox was full. At any rate, here is the message:
Hey,
I had a quick question about woofersetc.com. I was checking out some of the stuff they had to get a feel for what's on the market (it's something to do until the next paycheck or two comes in so I can actually buy the stuff you recommended), and I stumbled on a warning from zapco. They are claiming that woofersetc is not an authorized dealer and that units sent from customers to zapco for repair have had missing serial numbers--including serial numbers located inside the units.
I wanted to check with you to see what the deal with this was. I don't want to buy equipment from somebody if it's stolen or from a fishy company.
I found this site: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ when looking for alternatives to woofersetc. They're offer the Eclipse CD5000 for a bit cheaper ($250), but no CDT speakers. I haven't heard anything potentially negative about them, but you never know.
Here is Zapco's site: http://www.zapco.com/ The warning is posted in the "buyer beware" link. I know nothing about the Zapco company. I don't know if they make decent stuff or even if they're honest, but I wanted to take this seriously before I start buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff.
Thanks!
Nick

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I actually forgot about this PM.
I did some thinking and I would be careful purchasing anything that is not from an authorized dealer.
I have read a lot of positive reviews about woofersetc and I am buying speakers from them tonight. They are an authorized dealer for many other brands, just not Zapco.
I bought a set of rockford comps a long time ago from ikesound. Ikesound has a store in Florida, but could not sell authorized on the internet at the time. I blew one of my rockford 6.5's and they replaced it no problem (for a nominal shipping fee of like $30). They were not authorized but handeled the situation well. If you are expecting factory support only buy authorized, otherwise, read as many reviews as you can and buy from someone you trust. I bought my diamond amps for a premium ata local shop in Norman, OK. They were a valuable resource and had helped guide me in the right direction. (they steered me away from JL) For that, I gave them my business.
Do what you see fit, but hopefully my experience can shed some light on the matter.

Both woofersetc.com and sonicelectronix.com are very reputable mobile audio websites. I bought my subs from sonicelectronix, everything went smoothly. I plan on buying some CDTs from woofersetc sometime in the future. There will be horror stories with any business, but for the most part they are decent businesses with awesome prices.
Hey PReal, I did get upgraded to the 61a set for free. Didn't get my free Monster wiring though [:@]. Im calling tonite to ask about that.

Alright, thanks, guys. I should be able to order CDT with confidence, then. I was just concerned when I read the notice that there may be something fishy going on.
Thanks, guys.
Thanks, guys.
Haha, did you mean to just quote the 186,000 mile thing? Yeah its a lotta miles, but it still runs great. And all I have put in it since I bought it is new tires, brakes, and a new clutch is going in during spring break.
And I really want to buy some CDTs, but I just don't think I can spend the money. Not getting a job until summer and living off my savings which is now at $2k. I figure I'll spend $300 max on both the comps and amp, which is about a weeks worth of work during the summer.

96Firebird,
What are you studying? Where do you go to school?
I just graduated from FSU last December in Civil Engineering here.
Cool car, BTW. I hope mine lasts 186,000 miles.

I'm studying Mechanical Engineering at MCC (Monroe Community College) for now, but doing a 2+2 program with RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). I'm still in my freshman year, so I won't be getting a job at any major firm anytime soon.
And any car should last 200,000 miles as long as it is taken car of.
