Default car alarm

im not sure if this is the wright section but whatever.

so i bought my car last july, it was bone stock to my knowlege. but i noticed a little red led on the dash and i figured it has or had a aftermarket car alarm. about a month ago i realized there was a button right under where my hood pop is under the drivers side dash. so i decided to push it and see what happened, i thought it might be a kill switch but it actualy turned a security system on. and the red led went from solid all the time to blinking or off. what i want to know is how can i identify what type of system this is so i can get more information on it. any thoughts or comments are welcome.

we need to find the brain to see what brand it is. Be carefull with the switches as you could activate an alarm you cannot turn off. Follow the wiring from the light or switch to the brain. Most of the connections are made in the steering colum and in the drivers kick panel. I would start looking there.

The brain is generally on drivers side underneath the dash. Locating it is priority 1, then stop in when you do and we'll go from there.

so i looked under the drivers side dash and it looked like the brain was there but i couldnt tell. there was one box that said something like "shock protector" and another box with a buncha thick wires going to the ignition/gauge cluster area. it was tucked way up there and i couldnt twist it or move it to get a part number or brand. but thankfully i held the little button for about 30seconds and the alarm has seemed to turn off now. that churp was cool like the first day than it got old fast. il be at a huge mustang show this weekend and the last thing i need is my car going off in the middle of it.

Hmm you mentioned a chirp? I was thinking it was a dummy LED activated by a switch to make it seem like there was an alarm, but if your cars chirping that debunks my theory hehe.

no, when it was on if i didnt lock the doors and take out the key it would chrup after about 3min. and if i tried to open the door the alarm would go off, and not the oem ford one. and ofcourse it would go off if i locked the doors and tried to open the doors from the inside or pop the trunk.
