Default fiberglassed sub box

Is there anything wrong with building a sub box but out of fiberglass? Not much talk about em on this site. If using fiberglass, is it important to have a pretty intense wood frame for support?

It depends on the contours of the box. I build my own for my 05 Mustang. I chose fiberglass because they are easy to form fit. Fiberglass gets strength from curves. If it is a small box with some curves and what not then fiberglass is the way to go. If it is a square or rectangle box, say for 2 12's then you would want MDF. You can then do a few layers of fiberglass overtop of that if you want the look.

No, fiberglass is an excellent choice. It's not talked about alot because, not to sound mean but alot of people in here shouldn't be just trying it if they are having problems hooking up a cd player.

Well, does anyone have info or has done this? I am a carpenter, so that really shouldn't be a problem. It just may not be the greatest because it would be my first time.

The only (in my book) and best way to learn, is doing it and messing up and picking up a technique for the next time. Bracing is a key especially if your using a large woofer, or heavy if you will. Make sure you cut out your wood ring, give it a couple feet, atleast 3, develop the shape you want. Cover with fleece, dont use fiberglass crap, just go to a fabris store and get fleece it will create a much stronger finished product. Cover it with resin a few times, paint or finish accordingly. I may be leaving out some steps, I am yet to do a fiberglass box but, i've done observed several, and know the general process.

I didn't read this fully but it looks somewhat well put together. http://www.techguys.ca/projects/fiber_enc_01.html

Yeah, I started by making a little cup holder and then made the sub box without any issues at all since I knew what I was doing. What year is your car?

Just remember, fiberglass ONLY has strengh in curves. Any straight portions need to be supported by mdf.

I know its said above, but this is HUGE!!!

Fiberglass is an excellent choice if you do it right. You have limitless posiblities as far as shape and contours goes. Just remember to take your time when laying down your glass and work out all the air bubbles. If not the strength of the glass will be reduced.
Here's a couple I built for an 05:

I want to build or get two 10" Boxes for a set of infinity subs. I want the boxes on the side rear part of the trunk. Like where the shaker 1000 sub is. Any "How To's" on this. Thanks
