Default need HU install help

i have a 99 v6 convert with the regular radio, which is a cassette player with a separate cd player, no mach stereo... from what i've read, and confirmed, i have a amp sitting on the floor under the radio....

my dilema is... i've been trying to install a new JVC HU .. i went out and bought a wire harness... Metra 5511, which came with a black piece and a grey piece... plugged the black square plug coming out of the car into this harness, that basically connected the 8 speaker wires to my headunit.... next, i connected the gray long plug from inside the car to the new harness i just bought, and connected the ground (black to black), 12v (yellow to yellow) and the other 12v (red to red)..the amp turn on (blue/white) wires from the new harness to the wires that came with the new stereo.. I ignored the wires that came out from the back of the orig cd player.... at this point, i turned on the car to turn on the HU but there's no power to the unit... I thought it might be the fuse... but research tells me if i blew the radio fuse, the lights behind the A/C ***** would be out too, since it's the same fuse, but those lites are still on... so i'm guessing the fuse wasn't blown.....

Even without connecting anythng else, shouldnt i get power to the HU just by connecting the two 12v wires??? does this tell me that my HU is dead??? please help..

No you still have to connect the ground not just the power.

Instead of just assuming the fuse is good, why not check it. Every car is different. Fusable links etc. Check all of your fuses, under the dash and under the hood.

And to be honest I dont think the A/C panel power is on the same fuse as the radio. So that wouldn't even be my first assumption.

sorry.. i meant if i connected the ground and the 2 power wires, wouldn't i get power to the HU?

I will take your advice to double check the fuse..but in the manaul... fuse number 37.. are for : radio, ac heater control illumination, rear window defrost, overdrive cancel switch, instrument cluster, and lamp switch...

if it's not the fuse, i dont know what to do..

Check the fuse(s) on the radio, you could've sparked something during the install by accident.

there are multiple fuses that could blow both under the dash and under the hood. you really need to test for voltage on the wires with a meter or you need to check EVERY fuse. They like to link circuits to eachother and often the fuse blown has nothing to do with what you are looking for.

okay... so yesterday, i checked the fuse box under the hood... and the only 10amp fuse in the thing was popped... so i changed it.. i plugged the radio in .. still no power.. so i took a voltage meter at work.. and decided to see if the wires were getting power... found out that the ignition power cable didn't have any juice coming thru.. but the battery (constant power provided for memory on the HU) power cable did... (these are the two wires besides the ground that connects to the headunit). At the same time, i noticed my windshield wiper and washer fluid pump wasn't working.... i figured these are all related.... my question is... i openned the fuse box and checked every fuse in there... everything looked good... i checked the fuse thats on the HU... that is still good.. where else are there fuses??? anyone have any ideas?? is there another fuse box somewhere else in the 99 mustang??

fyi - when i checked for power, i disconnected any harnesses that came with the HU ... i tested the wires coming out of the dash... with the gray plug...

here's a lil more details.. i found a fuse box under the console on the driver's side.... well... i went thru every fuse, and found one that blew.. that was the windshield wiper.. but according to the voltage meter.. there's still no voltage coming thru to the igniation wire (red wire).. even when the car is on..... although there is voltage coming thru on the constant power line.. .(yellow wire)
