Default 96 GT installing HU problem

If anyone can help me please, i am teh uber noob at car stereo. I have a 96 GT w/ mach 460 stereo. I got the harness hooked up perfect and the deck will power up. I can't seem to get any audio though. I have a plug that will go into one of the ones out of the back of the stock amp but i don't know where to plug the other end into. I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT WITH THIS. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix it, PLEASE help me. Plus I have a huge date tomorrow night and I really need to get my cd player installed and dash put back together before this chick freaks out when she sees my jacked up interior. THANKS. JJ

I have the exact same problem on my '95 GT without mach 460. I only find one plug coming out of the stock amp. I don't know where to plug the other end in. [:@]

I'm glad I could be of some help. [8D]

First of all are you positive that you got the installation kit for the mach 460 sound system, the kit for the plain radio mustangs will fit just like the mach 460's but it will not work with this system. And you shouldn't have to mess with the 460 amps at all if your just installing a head unit, this may be another problem.

If you are hooking up an aftermarket receiver to your stock amps without running new wire, you need an OEM amplifier Adaptor to get sound.

Good luck on your date,

I figured it out! For my car all it needed was two extra wires connected. It didn't need the bypass. A blue wire with white stripes coming out of my kenwood deck needed to be connected to the blue wire with white stripes on the wiring harness that we previously thought we didn't need. Hope that helps. Mine is not a mach sound system by the way.

Do you have the premium sound? I have a 2000 with premium sound (not mach). I thought that I hooked it up right but I was running the speaker outputs to the harness that I bought for it into the factory amp (not good). I had to go and get another harness that would take the RCAs from the new HU and then run them into the factory amp. You might want to find out before you blow the amp or the HU. If you do not have a factory amp then you should be good to go.
