It finally decided to show up: my '07 GT coupe. Now to replace my Shaker 500. Anybody want to help me blow something around $1500?

I like SQ and good music as much as the next guy, but when I'm in my car I like to think that I'm concentrating on the road, so "unsophisticated" music, e.g. rap with obnoxious boomy drone bass, is perfect, if that gives an idea of what I'm looking for.

As far as head units, I'm torn between the Alpine IDA-X001 and the Eclipse CD5100.

For speakers, how about the CDT CL series. Do I have 5 1/4 or something else in the front? Also, could anybody point me to tips on installing these things in the S197?

Maybe someday I'll get an external amp for them, but for now I'll just run them off the head-unit.

Now the fun part. Long ago I had PPI amp that I kinda liked. Any thoughts? Alternatively, what do you think of this?

With that in mind, could somebody recommend an amp+sub pair for $700 or so? A 12 would be fun and sealed box is fine, but I'd love if it just sat in that little nook where the Shaker 1000 sub belongs. Anybody have a design for such a box and how much volume it could have?

And why would you be torn between those two h.u.'s, or even questioning buying either of those?

CDT's are nice, but everyone has their own perception of what sounds good. (Please, don't even question buying them till you have an amp to run them with. You won't be experiencing anything they have to offer if you do.)


How much room for abox are you willing to give up?
You said you want droneless bass, but you also said you wanted SQ. What's the deal? SPL or SQ?
What type box would you like? Sealed/Vented?
What's your price limit on everything? And what all do you need?
