Default Having a three-way in my door

Think I could fit this into the door of a car with the Shaker 500?

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=1111

Recall that the door has an opening for a 4x6 and a shallow 8".

I was hoping I could stuff the 4" and tweeter in the 4x6 opening. If not, hopefully I can fit the 4" there and then either drill a new hole in the door panel for it or just stick it on the a pillar.

As far as te 6.5", hopefully I can fit it where the 8" woofer is. I can't seem to find the suggested mounting depth anywhere. For what it's worth, I was poking around online, and somebody attributes the following quote to Crutchfield:
"The depth in the factory subwoofer location is just over 3 1/2 inches and the magnet diameter is limited to 3-3/4 inches"

the shaker 500 has a 5x7/6x8 plus the 8"openings not 4x6 , so the 4" and tweeter should fit there. that's not saying anything about depth for any of them. the depth could be an issue for all the speakers not just the subs.

Those are great speakers. I would look at getting a 3 way setup with 8's as the woofers and 5.25's or 6.5's as the mids. You could even get the ES610 or ES620's and then add two of the 8 inch subs.

S2006-You're totally right about the 5x7 in the doors. Synapse misfire. I don't suppose you know the depth of the mounting do you? Has anybody with an S197 pulled the speakers out of the front door who could measure them? That would give a lower bound at least on the admissible size.

P-That'd be really cool, but I'm not sure how it would fit. If the 8" is generous enough to fit in the factory sub location, would the 6.5" fit in the 5x7 location? Then I would be forced to make a new location for the tweeter? Also, would I need a 4-ch amp if I buy the woofers separately?

Do you have any information on the physical dimension of the CDT drivers? Their site is less than intuitive.

I need to stop being lazy and pull the panel off the door, but I was really hoping to have the speakers in hand so I don't have to do it again or have to drive around without a panel for a week or so.

Thanks for the sanity check as I try to design this system at my desk at work based on hopes and dreams rather than in my garage with a measuring tape like any reasonable person.

the biggest crutchfield shows a top mount of 2 7/16", so i wouldn't think anything much deeped would fit. i'm just starting to think about what i want to do. like you, i only want to take the doors apart once.

Hey, I'm at my desk at work too.

The CDT site is a little hard. Go with somehting like the EF8's for the woofers, and yes a 6.5 will fit in a 5x7/6x8 opening.

EF8, eh? I was looking at the SQ-800 but then got disappointed when I saw that the mounting depth was almost 5". But the EF8 claims to only require 3.5", which might be doable. I guess I should just suck it up and pull the panel off tomorrow and see what I have. If I were a good citizen I'd take pictures and detailed measurements for the benefit of the forum. It's much more likely that I half *** it and eyeball it.

So, if I do go with the ES-620 and the SQ-800 do I need a four channel amp with LPF and HPF or should I buy an additional crossover?

Just buy a good quality 4 channel amp. I would doubt you would even need a sub for the trunk with all that midbass.

Image Dynamics woofers would also work well IB in the doors.

What do you think of these for the 8" hole? Don't hate me for some of them, I'm just looking for slim and I was wondering how unhappy I'd be.

I couldn't find any ID ones that were slim enough. Once again though, I really need to shut up and pull apart my door, but I'm more or less obsessed at this point.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=448might be worth a try and really cheap.

I like the EF- 8's and the dynaudios from above.

You might even consider mounting a true midbass woofer like the CDT M6 down there. It might be a 6.5, but a simple adapter would allow the use of those. Something like this:
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4848or http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5574or http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5572

Here are some other great 8's.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-610(I beleive this is very similar to dynaudio)
