Default A/F guage install problem?

Hello,

I am triying to verify which wire is the O2 sensor signal wire I should connect to when installing an A/F guage. I have a Mach 1 2004. I installed an autometer guage and run the signal wire to the O2 sensor prior to the catalityc converter. I connected the signal wire of the guage to the gray wire comming out of the O2 sensor. However, for some reason the guage never gets out of the lean area, even when I floor the gas. I have confirmed that the guage is working fine, as I tested it in my previous car which also has an automer guage and it works fine in that car.

I tried to read the voltage comming out of the O2 sensor gray wire using a digital volt meter and I kept getting al sorts of wierd readings like 50 mv to 100 mv meaning 0.05v to 0.01 v.

There is also two white wires and a balck wire that come out of the o2 sensor, but all of those seem to be either ground or +12v. Also I was thinking that maybe the O2 sensor is not working, but then I should be getting an error code and the engine light should turn on, but that is not the case.

So in conclusion, I am lost I am just not sure how this works. Does anybody know if the ford O2 sensors have a different volt range than other o2 sensors which normaly work between 0 and 1 V?

Wondering if maybe I should try to connect to a signal wire going to the ECU, instead of the O2 sensor directly?. Any help or suggestions you may have are greately appreciated.

Regards.

Answered in 4.6 section. I am trying to remember what color wire it was in the computer. Hold on, it will come to me.
