Default Recommend a Sound System

Hey everyone, I have a 2004 GT with the mach 460 system and for a while now i've been planning on ripping out the whole 460 system and putting in a new one. My biggest problem is im no genius at all the different brands of speakers, subs, tweeters, amps, etc. Im trying to find the best bang for the buck and was wondering what everyone might recommend for a good 8' - 10' sub(s) and amp followed by speakers. If im correct then replacing the speakers means rewiring the whole system but I would worry about that after getting the sub and amp first to see how they sound with the stock speakers.

I don't want to go over 10" because of space concern, I would like to have "some" space in the trunk at least. Right now budget is not a big concern, I figure if im gonna put in a new system I might as well get a good one but I still want to find the best bang for the buck that i can. The type of music I listen to just depends on the mood so pretty much everything except modern country.

As for a head unit im narrowing my choices down. Im starting to lean towards an in-dash dvd reciever.

Im setting about 800-1000 over time for good subs, amps, and speakers. I don't want something too powerfull though becuase im not gonna be blasting the thing at all times. Im more interested in getting a very clear and very clean sound from the music I listen to.

Well I havn'nt looked at speakers yet but what about 2 Ed SQ10 subwoofers with 1 Nine.2x amp? It seems like an all around good package. I don't understand the voice coils though if someone could explain that?

I was going to suggest a pair of SQ10's to you along with the nine.2x. So good call my friend!

The SQ10's are single voicecoil, which is very simple, but doesn't have as many options as a dual voice coil sub would. With the nine.2x amp, when you hook up the woofers say you get the 2 ohm version, you will be running the amp at 2 ohms, and at 2 ohms the amp puts out a rated 300 watts per channel (closer to about 350 though). Say you went with the 4 ohm versions and wired it up you would then get the rated power at 4 ohms from the amp, around 200 per channel. So with the 2 ohm version woofers you will be sending just about the right amount of power you want to them.

If you want to know whats different between a SVC and DVC woofer and how wiring effects the load, go to eD's site and go to the bottom of the shortcut bar on the left and click on Subwoofer Wiring under Other Resources. It will tell you how wiring a sub a certain way will present a specific load on your system.

Headunit I would suggest Eclipse, either CD3100 ($215) or CD5000 ($299) from woofersetc.com depending on whats left in your budget...

Components- CDT-EF61FG/TW25 ($250) http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4630
CDT-EF61FG ($200) http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3341

Front stage amplifier- I would go with the eD nine.2 ($220) amp for this but, if you want to save some money thiswould be agreat amp for under $100 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...TMA+T4002.html

Knu Konceptz makes good wiring kits for a great price. (Check out Tsunami also) You'll spend around $75-$100 in wiring between your 2 amps. Dont forget RCA's! Or you can just get a set of 4-channels instead of 2-2 channels.

Thanks for the help. Im actually looking for an in-dash dvd reciever. I've put aside a big budget for one and im looking into the pioneer AVIC-D3. One other question I have is about boxes. Since im going for the Sq10's, I wanted to put them on both sides of the trunk to save space and be able to use the trunk. Something like the shaker 1000 setup. I don't know anything about boxes but from what I've read, a box would require the right dimensions and need to be tuned for the specific sub. I was thinking of checking ebay for custom boxes or seeing about bilding a custom one on ED. What are your thoughts on this?

Also, for connections, do I need an amp kit? I know I need a line-output converter to get them to work with the stock setup but if I were to completely replace all the speakers is it as simple as removing the old ones, putting the new ones in and then splicing wires together and getting the right connnections in place?

Those component speakers. I take it they are just two different sets and each set provides the right number of speakers needed for the stang? Or are both sets needed to have enough speakers for the car? Also the rear amps, If I eventually swap out all the speakers and get everything rewired can I just remove the factory amps and add another ED amp to power the speakers?

I am a little confused by your post.

Please do not purchase any speakers, woofers or amps without upgrading your headunit. You will be so pissed when it sounds like crap and you just dropped $1k into it. As far as the woofer enclosures, please do not buy anything pre-fab, they are junk. If you aren't up to building them yourself, talk to eD and they can build them perfectly for you. They dropped some serious $$$ on a CNC machine that makes boxes to spec within one thousanths of an inch, people should take advantage of that.

Dont hook this up with a LOC, thats why your headunit has pre-outs. LOC will make any great sytem sound terrible. What I mean by an amp kit is your power and ground wiring, your remote turn on wire, some speaker wire and some rca's and of course a fuse.

You dont need to worry about putting in any rear stage. I have explained this in several post's. It's a waste of money and time. Spend the money on a better front stage, you will be much happier.

Ok it all makes sense now. I will get a headunit first, then order the subs and amp. I don't have time to build my own boxes because I work 6 days a week on long shifts so i'll talk to ED about the boxes. I will worry about speakers later. That would just leave me to get the harness for the HU and the amp kit for the sub/amp combo then correct? I really appreciate the help.
