Expedition Stereo Question
I posted this over at the12volt.com but not replies there, figured I'd might try here.
[hr]Hey all, I am new to the forums here and already I have found out a lot of useful info. I searched for info on my questions but came up empty.
1. I am having a hard time finding a wiring harness/mount for my 2002 Expedition. I see 99-01 and 03+, seems to always skip 2002. When I did find one, it said for systems without the Mach (which I have). Will any others work?
2. The last owner did a hack job on the system. The stock 8" sub was taken out and the factory box made larger for a 10" sub, then turned in with no sub. Even the factory amp is toast so I have ZERO bass in the truck. It also had the Visteon system installed. I have since taken down the VCR and plan to run the video cables from the monitor to the head unit for a future DVD player or something.
On to the question. Behind the stock head unit, there are 3 plugs. 1 appears to be pwr/gnd/speakers/etc, and I think the other one is for the 6 disc cd changer? So what would the 3rd plug be? I have pictures at home and can upload later on.
2b. Can the stock 6 disc cd changer be retained at all with another head unit?
2c. On some of those 3 plugs, it seems they ran other wires from them, or were reconnected at some point. Like I said it looks like a hack job but I am 99% sure the main plug is intact its just the 2nd/3rd plug I am not sure what they are for.
3. I am installing my old system from another vehicle that was wrecked. Its an Alpine cd head (model unknown at the time). My truck has a large opening and I would love to eventually install like an Eclipse or similiar head unit with the lcd screen (not the flip out type). Of course, Crutchfield says they will not fit; probably b/c it may take some modification. Has anyone installed one and what issues did you run into? It seems that maybe clearance in the dash would be in the only issue but I see some plastic that can easily be done away with.
4. Since I removed the Visteon VCR from the rear of the truck, I know have a nice 12"x11" square hole in my headliner. Any ideas on what to use to cover it? I was thinking about some heavy duty cardboard and some tan cloth to match??
Thats about it off the top of my head. I will be doing this in the next week or so.
Thanks!

Ok at home so I can show some pics:
This is the back of the stereo where you can see the 3 harnesses in question. Also, where you see electrical tape close to those harnesses is where I said it looks like something was rigged. And, looks like I was wrong about the main harness being cut into. There is also an antenna splitter, is this normal?
Forgot about this, what is this for? It was just laying behind the dash.

And finally, the old Visteon VCR I took down:

On a final note, their forums STINK! hehe (In a user-friendly manner)

Well, installed my old Alpine stereo today and already it sounds 10x better. Next month I will do the amp and subs. Had to repair the factory harness, such a PITA not sure why someone would hack apart certain wires.
Anyone have some info on 3 & 4?
