Default Blaupunkt Head Unit

Hey, Does anyone have any experinence with Blaupunkt head units? I am looking at the Kingston MP47. Its certainly not the most expensive thing out there, but I think it has all of the features I need.

As I look at the specs on this unit on, I see that it is not CEA compliant and that they do not give the RMS power bandwidth and there is also no signal to Noise ratio given for CD playback. I find these specs a little troubling, is there a reason why they do not list thes specs or are the values bad, so they choose not to list them. Also theFM sensitivity is a little high at 17dbF.... maybe I should look elsewhere. Opinions?

Yes I see that, but this unit does not have the RMS band ie. it may be RMS of 14W at seval points in the Hz band, but who knows because they do not give the power band in which they are at at least 18W.

honestly, blaukpunt isnt anything special, you cant tell when rms bandwith starts and ends. if you like it then buy it. if you dont then find something else.

I would not even consider the amps rms or peak rating for any deck I would but. I owned a blaupunkt once but that was when they were uber kewl with the code protection for the pullout cassette.....

I have not worked with them recently nor heard much about them to be honest. I can say that if it was crap I would have probably heard that, they do not look too horrible.....

A lot of guys on the BMW forum use them because they match the interior well. According to what I've read on that site, they aren't oo bad for the money.

Like ttocs said, take those power rating with a grain of salt. I personally wouldn't even look at the power ratings of an HU, they are grossly overrated distortion machines.

Thanks for the input guys, mainly I wanted the blaupunkt to blend in with my interior and liked the simple design of the unit. I also thought the USB may be nice since I do not have an ipod. But ultimitly I went with the Pioneer 4900, I am not a hardcore audio in my car guy, that money better spent in myhome audio. From the review the Pio is a nice unit with a nice simple look.

I had the older San Francisco CD?? forgot the numbers.

I loved it.

The Infra-Red remote control was flaky, so I wouldn't install it - seems that stray IR light would set it off, etc.
The sound was really good SN on the CD was rated at 105. Tuner was top notch. Display brightness was a little low.
Never had any problems.
Almost went with the newer/replacement unit the Bremen MP74 - available ONLY at www.midwestelectronics.com from what I can tell, and their inventory is spotty at best. The BP control interface is simple to use compared to others I've seen. I ultimately went with Alpine's new Imprint enabled unit (or at least I will once I order it) because I think the Sound Quality is going to be better (I like the remote controllable 701 EQ unit with in-dash controller + IMPRINT which I think compares fairly well to the BP DNC/and ridiculous 32x4 band EQ or however many channels it is).

I never regretted buying the San Francisco. Their Amps however are to be strictly avoided.
