Default Mach question...

Okay, in general, have a few questions and was referred to this forum.

I asked about a mustang I'm buying locally, it has premium sound, but now I'm not sure if it's mach or not. It's an '02, and I just figured all mustangs (or most) come with a mach system. I'm not sure if it's a good sound system or not, but really, I want a nice stereo system in the car. Part of the desire of a mustang to me, or any sports car for that matter.

It doesn't have the "tweeters" or "tweekers" in the doors, near the windows, if that's what they're called. And to be honest, I haven't checked the trunk for amps or anything. But do some mustangs simply come without the mach system?

If it really doesn't have a mach system, what would be cost of putting one in? Would I be better off getting an aftermarket system in? I just want a really good, quality sound and decent bass. No need for powerful subs, though it would be nice to have something inexpensive but semi-decent if possible (sub wise). Any suggestions?

I'd prefer mach just because it's something I liked, having driven a mustang with it before. I guess it's the mach 450 or 60 version that has those front door speakers?

At any rate, forgive my ignorance on the lingo / terminology. I'm a big newbie when it comes to mustangs, cars in general for that matter. This one will be my first.

And lastly, though this is the "audio" forum... Does an '02 stang with 39k miles, in need of new tires (500 bucks roughly) and new brakes (another 400 - 500 dollars)... Along with some cosmetic chips, scratches, etc, sound like a good deal for 8400? The interior is near perfect, smells great, looks amazing, etc. Mechanic said the frame checked out and all, but how would I tell if it's a lemon? Any way to do that at all?

Thanks a bunch for any input. =)

It sounds like you just have a regular sound system (no mach; nothing with amps). Some do come without a mach sound system. Some have just a regular set up (four speakers and a radio); others have the mach 460 or mach 1000. I would not be too worried about not having the mach sound system since you are willing to go aftermarket anyways. Honestly going after market will be better, and sound better. That is as long as you don't cheap yourself out. Normally in the audio world you get what you pay for. Now as to suggest some products all depends on you. Your price range, what you are looking for, what you normally listen to, and how you like to listen to it.

test drive it. check everything you possibly can. if its an auto make sure it shifts smoothe and everything. if its a 5sp make sure it goes into all gears and doesnt give a slight grind when going into gears (the stock shifter clicks a bit but if a synchro is going bad it will make a slight grind). anyways 8400 isnt bad considering those low miles and you say the interior is in good shape.

doesnt have a mach unless someone removed the tweeters (unlikely but possible). trunk would be the easiest way to tell. some do not come with the mach, my buddy's gt came without it.

if you do not have the tweeters then you have a standard stereo. Installing a mach system in it would not be worth the trouble but I have all the parts if you want!
