Default 1993 Stereo dash kit ... or use factory pocket?

How did you all install your single din stereos... with the aftermarket kit or the factory pocket? I would rather not screw into my console with the aftermarket kitbecause the car is so clean. But to use the factory pocket, what did you do to make that work with the stereo and pocket to be mounted? pics? THanks

I have done it with the factory pocket and do not remember it being all that hard if you are a little creative. It does not look quite as smooth as the kit but I never liked putting screws in the dash either...

Any pics?

I have tried to use some plumbers tape and that didnt take. Didnt think that would... the HU and pocket were not secure against the dash enough.

its been so long ago I can't remember what I did. I really would not worry about 4 screw holes in your dash as you can always patch it and paint it to make it look like it did......

my dash already has the 4 holes in it, courtesy of a previous owner, so my choice is a little easier. You could always use the aftermarket kit but hold it in place with 3M tape.

Yea, that's an idea I was thinking. See if that holds throught the heat etc. Probably the way i got before threading the dash. THanks

np - it should hold up to heat /cold etc, just remember to clean the surfaces properly first or use the adhesion promoter stuff by 3M.

it will hold up fora little while but will eventually fail. It is not perminant but that is the point right?

Use the factory pocket and secure the back of the radio with a backstrap to avoid moving and the pocket should stay put.

properly applied 3M tape can hold body moldings in place so shouldn't fail as such but heat will make it easier to remove when you want to
