replacing speakers(mach 460)
i have a 04 Gt with the mach 460 system. i recently replace the speakers in my rear deck and it sounds way better but now when i try to listen with the volume a little over half way up my amps to the rear speakers shut off for a few seconds and come back on this happens over and over. i can listen to it all day with the vloume lower. are the factory amps not compatible with aftermarket speakers? or did i do something wrong
im not totally 100% sure but i believe the factory amps just arn't strong enough and every few seconds (or however long the interval) your amps "run out" of juice and need to stop for a second to "fill back up", so yes your just over powering them and would need A: speakers that use less power. B: a higher power amp or C: keep the volume lower... or D: just bare it [:'(]
has anyone sucessfully powered aftermaket speakers with the factory amps? and if so what brands did you use?
im not looking to buy new amps i just want to get a little better sound

^UPDATE^ i went back to stock, did as much searching as i could. from what i gather the Mach system speakers run on a different independance(ohms) than most which is usually 4 ohms. i got lazy and didnt take a multimeter to my stock speakers to measure ohms before i put them back in.
anyway i did hookup some cheap tweets i got off of ebay in parallel to the stock tweets all the way around and the amps do not cut out and it is quite an improvement.
i still am thinkin of how i can put aftermarket speakers to my stock amps with minimal trouble.
my thought was measure the ohms on the stock door and deck speakers to be sure what it is. get some aftermarket speakers and wire a resistor in paralell to the speaker to get the correct ohms for the stock amp. i know it will not sound as good as a aftermarket amp but replacing the whole danm system its gonna get pricey and imma put any signifigant amount i get toward perfromance mods.
has anyone put the stock speakers to a multimeter to see what ohms they use? ive read 6 but most are guessing and i would like to know for sure and would like to save myself the trouble of dimantling the rear deck again.
any input greatly apreciated

Well if the original speakers in the car ar at 6ohms or higher, putting in aftermarket ones that are at 4ohms are just going to be louder. But i dont know if the factory amps can handle a lower impedence. (may overheat)
Your Mach speakers are 2 ohms and aftermarket is 4.
When you turned it up too loud the amps would clip out...shut off and turn on. You cannot just replace two speakers in a Mach system. You would have to do all 4 or six and wire in parallel so the Mach amps can again see 2 ohms...what they were designed for.

2 ohms, that comes as a suprise to me. i still havent got around to putting a multimeter to the speakers myself cuz last time i dropped the speaker assebly in the rear deck and put it back i was getting a ton of sqeaks from it not being tight enough.
i would have never thought the mach speakers would run at a lower ohms rating than aftermaket. from experience from my previous systems running lower ohms usualy means more power and less sound quality

Try some Dynamat on your rear deck. Will quiet up, if not eliminate, those squeaks from loose speakers, metal, bolts....etc....
