so ive been up to my neck in looking at performance parts for my mustang but im still not sure if thats the way to go, so im now thinking of doing something to the pretty lame stock sytem in my '08 v6 mustang. ive come to you guys to find out where to start since (from reading other posts) yall seem to be very knowledgeable in this area. What do i start with? I am completely naive to all these numbers measurements and brands and would like to know where i can get some info or flat out directions on what to get or what to avoid

Note: i listen to rock mainly ,but am very open minded towards other music
i prefer quality over sheer loudness but do like to crank it up
no audio mods and have the bare bones stock radio (no 500 or 1000)
since i am 15 i am willing to save up (till i get a job) or beg my parents (easier)[sm=smiley2.gif]

IMO the best place to start is with an upgraded front stage, an amp to power the fronts and a HU.

It really all depends on your budget. How much do you/your parentswant to spend?

 

Budget and are you planning on doing the install? I wish i would have started with the HU. Now i'm scraping up change to save for it. But I would agree with P to get the HU amp and front stage done.

 

first of all thanks for replying so fast, like i kinda mentioned, i dont have much on me, but i am in no hurry, usually the way it works is i save up money till my parents are willing to cover the rest or untill they surprise me, either way if you can set me a goal ill usually make it

what hu's and amps are good(brands)? what do you suggest? cuz i want a system that you can respect, i dont need a jawdropping setup, but i understand that (at least with car audio) what you pay for is what you get please get me some links or price estimates

yes i am planning to do the install, by the way, unless i can find cheap installation, but me and my bro-in-law can take care of it

 

I like Eclipse, Clarion, and Pioneer H/U's. An Eclipse CD5000 has lots of nice features and is a solid piece of equipment for under $300. Great sites to check out are woofersetc dot com and also ikesound dot com . For components i would look at Diamond, Morel, CDT, maybe the new Elemental Designs system, and definitely DLS. For amplifiers I would think that Elemental Designs, XTANT, Diamond, Zapco are the best choices. For subwoofers, check Elemental Designs, Adire, Fi, I think older RE stuff is better than new RE stuff, top of the line JL, and Image Dynamics. I think those are the options I would always go with right now. Check out the company sites as well as the two i listed.

Start with a h/u... i would take alpine over any of them... also for a new amp alpine aswell pdx they put out a lot of power they sound clean they don't draw alot of current and they are small and you can stack them... the system i'm running is huge it's very very loud and clear i listen to mostly rock.... when it's cranked to 27 or higher you have to get out of the car it so loud.... but what is coll it's not really loud out side the car

Alpine should be added to the list of good HU companies. IMO they are not quite as nice as eclipse, but a close second.

 

Alpine or pioneer headunit is your first step. Then change out the speakers and if your heart desires do a 4 ch on them. At that point your highs will sound nice and you'll need a 10 or 12 in the back to balance it out. I like 1 twelve in sub, doesn't take up alot of room but gives you that kick you need. Good luck
