Trying to upgrade and LOST!
I want to upgrade my stereo system and i have a few questions.. i already have a head unit in. is there any way to take out the stock amps and put aftermarket amps in place? what else are my options? i know its Quite the pain in the A$$ to take out the rear deck. lol any thing will help!
What do you drive (model, year, stereo option, etc.)? I had a 2000 GT with the Mach 460, and it was a pain. The wiring from the head unit hit three separate factory amps in some form of daisy-chain set up (i.e. - NOT one for the front mids, one for the front highs, and one for the back sets...), and after an entire day of trying to figure it out, I ended up having to re-wire everything from the head-unit back. The rear plastic box under the deck was good for producing mid-bass, but I pulled it out completely as I had a sub box in the trunk and needed the space.
welcome to the audio forum. 460's are cake, page 2 of my cardomain shows HU integration into the 460

If you have the 460 there is one stock amp right under your head unit and there are 2 more behind your back seat. If it's a coupe they will be on a rack and if its a vert they will be bolted right to the trunk floor behind the back seats, one on either side of the hydraulic pump for your top.
I have a '04 GT. i have a decent panasonic in there. i didnt know about the amp up front but i took the rear "pod" i guess out. its a mess to look at im stuck. not sure if theres a way to install maybe a small amp or 2. or to just re-wire? from what i looked at it looks like the 6x8's are just there for bass powered by the amps and the tweets are running of the deck power.
start a new post and we will be hapy to help. Tell us what is in the car now, what you want to put in the car this afternoon and what your longterm stereo plans are.
