HEADunit removal/problems please help everyone!
this is a repost but just looking for more ppls opinions and answers before i start working on it wensday. hey everyone, got a few problems, and im new to the website, so gimme a break lol, im tryin to install my subs and amp to my stock v6 2001 stang, and i ran into a few problems, 1"how do i remove the botttom party of my back seat, i can feel the levers on each side under the leg part but cant get them out, 2" how do i remove the side panels underneath the stearing wheel on the left where the hood hatch button is so i can put my wires under the carpet, 3" the most important, is there anyway i can manually hook up a new headunit(getin rid of my stock one but havent decided on which new headunit to buy) to my subs without doing a bunch of wire splitting or cross wiring stuff, ive seen some headunits that come with the l and r channel holes available but i also have a 3rd wire, thats blue, that hooks up to my amp thats suppose to hook up to the back of my headunit telling my amp to power up when i start up the car. If anyone can help me by giving directions on how exactly to do it or just w/e info u can help me with id appreciate it guys. Thanx fellow mustang riders
Unless you're really disorganized, you shouldn't be having to do alot of wire splitting and crossing. Especially with just amps and subs and headunit.
The headunit is easy to do, just get a wiring harness for it, solder the correct wires together (they should color match) and heat shrink them. Run the wires from your amp to your headunit, and so on and so forth.
Run RCA cables from your headunit to where your amp is going to be, give an extra 4 inchs of RCA cables. (I'd assemble them myself so you can cut them to the length you need.)
Run a 4 gauge wire from your battery to your amp for power, and put a "hot" fuse in the line. Perferably in the engine bay. Just attach it to the positive terminal. Do it properly.
Run the wire to the back of the car, under the plastic molding by the door, just stuff it under the carpet.
Find a good bolt that connects to a metal surface roughly less then 3 feet away from your amp. Clean the metal surface with sandpaper around the bolt so the ground has a good connection.
Everything else should be in the instructions.

I can give you some help on the removeal of the plastic parts heres some pictures. The removeal is simple, most are just plastic parts. 1st step is to remove that foot rail showen in picture 1, it should just yank right out only a few clips holding it in place. 2nd step remove the plastic push in screw located near the dead foot pedal. 3rd step pull out that plastic part that has the hood release, pull it out facing the back passenger seats, theres 1 clip holding it on place. Look at all the pictures i have upload, that should help you out. As far as the rest maybe someone else can help.

if you can see the buttons under the seat just grap a screw driver and push in the middle if it while pulling the seat up. It should pop right out.
The side panels by the hood pull are removed after you remove the door sill by the seat. I normally start at the back of the panel by the back seat and just grap it nice and tight and pull straight up. It will probably make a really bad noise, that is normall. Some of the clips will come off with teh panel and some will stay on the metal, again normal.
Great job with the pics.
And the only other thing I need to add to what was above is that the power wire for your amp is ALWAYS supposed to be fused with in 12" of the battery. Not normally, not if you can but ALWAYS!!!

again thanx alot guys ur really helping me out, i havent started yet but as soon as i get my new headunit and the harness i think ill do just fine, if anyone else still wants to post please do, id like to hear as much as i can plus if anyone else comes in my position later and looks at this page, im sure theyll be happy to read all of ur comments
alright guys ran into a new problem, i got a head unit and wire harness so it was easy to hook up most of the wires by color coating them, but now from the wire harness, i have 4 extra wires, 2 orange wires and two black wires which both black say ground on them, and i have 2 extra wires comin from the deck, one black that says ground, and one blue that says antena, anyone got an idea on what im suppose to do?
there is a black and a black with a white stripe probably. The white stripe is the ampground, connect it to the regular ground as well as to the new radios ground wire(all the black wires and the black with white stripe get connected together. The orange wires are your dimmer wires and if your radio does not have a corresponding orange dimmer wire on the deck then just make sure to insulate them, if they short out your dash lights will go out. The blue wire is your remote turn on or your power antenna wire(if there is not a blue/white). This wire will have +12v on it when the radio is on to tell the amps to turn on or the power antenna to go up. If you do not have a mach sound system, nor any aftermarket amps at the time then just insulate this wire as you also do not want it to ground out.
ok, and does anyone know how to ground my amp and where to put the cable out of, i completly forgot where i took my cord out of that grounds it so now i dont know what part of the amp to put it in
well if your talking about what to ground the wire tothere should be a few solid metal bolts in the trunk under the carpet unscrew the boltand put the wire under the bolt and screw it down. also make sure the bolt is clean use sand paper to clean it off. {any pain rust or what not}
If your referring to where to hook the ground wire up on the amp at it should say ground it ll be on the opposite side of the b+ the remote should be in the middle and the ground should be on the left of the three prong hook up, if any more problems tell what kink of amp you have
