93 fox body, premium sound?
So i read that if you had speakers in the dash of a fox body mustang, it came with the "premium sound" package, including an amp somewhere.
Can anyone confirm this? Also, im looking to replace the speakers since a few of them are shot, and also have some subs im putting in the trunk.
Im not doing anything redicilusly expensive, just a small upgrade to fix the crappy speakers now. Can anyone recomend me some speakers that i can pick up at CC or best buy? thanks

Premium package did come with a amp, which can be bypassed with an aftermarket wiring harness.
I got the Kenwood speakrs that were like 80 bucks for the front, and 90 for the back. Love em!
Get a 350 Watt amp for your regular speakers as you may damage your speaker if your not giving them the wattage the need when playing loud.
I just ran brand new speaker wires to my kenwoods because I was having too much trouble tracking down alot of the problems with the original speaker wires. Not too hard.

Not ALL foxes with the 3.5's have "premium" sound. But if you do have an amp it usually located right below the radio (although i have seen them under the passanger seat). You should just pull the radio out and get the right wiring harness and it will bypass the amp if you have one. And its 3.5'sin the dash, 5 1/4's in the doors (although i fit 6 1/2's) and 6x8's in the back. You can get a good setup for not too much $$$ if you shop around. Good luck.
yeah, the front left speaker in the dash is shot. And im pretty sure i have an amp underneath my passenger seat, its a black box that i have to look closer at lol.
I have a new headunit that i got a damn good deal from circuit city, the pioneer p6900ub . Circuit city had it at their store for 290 plus 40$ installation, but for some reason their was a price error online that had it at 175$ installed. So, score!
Im thinking of going to circuit city and picking up some dash and rear speakers and maybe doing the doors later. Then ill have to figure out how to wire up some subs in the trunk. Is this hard? Any tips for doing this in a fox body? How would i power he amp?
Do i really need an amp for the door speakers, etc? How would I go about wiring that up? Also, Is a channel left and right, or just one side? Like, would i need a 2 channel amp to power the dash left and fash right speakers? If so that means i would need a 6 channel amp for all the door speakers? Would i need to replace the wiring in the doors with larger gauge wiring?
Sorry for so many questions, just never done a speaker install before...

Get a Amp Wiring Kit.. Should give you all the essestional wiring you need.. Just need the tools: Wire Cuters, and Strippers, Flat head and Philips Screw Drivers..
You need a 4 guage wire going from your positive battery terminal to your amp, and having a fuse on the line for safety. Then run RCA cables from the Amp to the Headunit. It's not difficult, just time consuming.
You could get away with a 4 channel amp for your speakers (both dash and door speakers hooked up to to the front channels) and then rear speakers hooked up to the rear channel.
Then do a Low Pass Filter Amp for your Subwoofer, it'll keep the subwoofer from trying to play high notes. Bridge these two amps together and you're set.
Make sure the main amp has a preamp connection to bridge them.
Don't say sorry for asking questions.. The only stupid question is one that is not asked.

You don't need an amp for the regular speakers, but it is advised, your speakers will last longer.

Okay, so if the speakers im looking at are only 150 watts, can i get a 150 watt amp and be safe?
Hmm, gotta find a hole in the firewall then.
I cant seem to find 3.5in speakers, anywhere. Anyone know where i can find them?
How would I go about briding two amps together? And im assuming the low pass filter amp is like a regular amp, just described as so.
Could I run the two amps off the same wire connected to the battery?
Thanks for responding

If you can't find a hole in the firewall, drill a small hole and put a rubber gromet in it.
For 3 1/2 Speakers go to Crutchfield.com

Remember when brigding, to keep the ohm the same.. You cant bridge a 2-ohm to a 4-ohm amp. RMS and Peak power need to be the same..
I don't know how exactly to bridge an amp, as I've never done it, but from I understand, you take the postive wire of one amp and hook it up to the other. Sorry I can't be of any help there.
bridging an amp is just combining the output channels. If you have a 100w x 2 rms(at4 ohms per speaker)stereo often if you bridge the amp then you will get 200w out but now only to 1 output(now still 4 ohms). You can of course wire this to multiple speakers as long as you do it in the correct series or parallel sequence to not go BELOW the amps minimum impedence(ohms). If you have an amp that is SAFELY rated at 100w x 2(at 4 ohms as above) that means you can hook one 4 ohm speaker up to each channel of that amp. you can safely wire two speakers in series(4 ohms each)to each channel(the amp now sees an 8 ohm load per channel). In this conigeration(8 ohm stereo) the amp will not put out as much power(as it would at 4 ohm stereo above) but will run safely. If you take those same speakers and wire them in parallel now instead of series, the amp will see a 2 ohm load and while it WILL put out significantly more power, it will do it at the price of the amp running very hot, and probably dying quickly........
If you do not want anything special there was someone on here recommending some descent looking plate speakers for less then $20 a pair.... Couldn't get him to shut up a month ago.

Hmmm, makes sense.
Seems this is going to be more money than I expected, since the amps are not very cheap. Can anyone recommend me an amp from either best buy or circuit city? as well as a few decent speakers to go with it? Thanks
