is this the right harness?
The car is a 95 GT vert with mach 460....best buy gave me a wiring harness with the gray skinny one...i think all of the have that. The other harness is a small black perfect square. I could not get it to shove into the plugin. I noticed there is two more prongs on the aftermarket harness than on the factory. Is this the right one?
I took it back and they said it was and just gave me some dumb looks. The number is 70-5511 if that helps. Metra is thebrand

page 2 of my cardomain page will show them, they sound correct depending on what deck yer puttin in and what you want to do .
I am amazed that they did not tell you that it could not be done, or tried to sell you a $50 hrns...........
Did you try the square plug in the other direction?

yea i tried it both ways.... I using a new sony cdx-gt710 but i dont think it is the right harness becuae I see thatyours has three....they had a kit that had what looks like the two i have but an extra one that is the green one in yours
I also have a wiring harness kit that is for normal mustangs that just has the two harnesses that are the size of the gray one
and what exactly do I need to unhook and plug into which plug? I have put in a lot of aftermarket head units and put in a lot of pretty simple systems but I have never had to intergrate factory amplifiers or anything like this

The way I did mine is a little more difficult the most poeple would make it and more difficult then it needs to be. I have installed for a number of years and had time to tinker and tweek the system so it sounded best but you can do much less and still get good sound.
Can you take a pic of what you have?

sorry i took a while to reply....hit a deer and I ordered some aftermarket fenders had to have the whole front end and fenders painted.....but i started back in on the stereo tonight and I think I have it most of the way figured out.....I was wondering about the RCAs because my stereo hasa subowoofer control but it only hastwo plugins for that.....do i just wire all four positive speakers to the positive sub control RCApluginand neg to neg? And do i not hook up the speaker wires from the deck to the small square hms since the RCA plugins are going to be wired to that hms?
did you ever find the match to the hrns you could not get to fit? There could be a couple of them that look similar that went to the factory cd player. It is normally a little stiff to push in but not too bad.
yes it was the right plugin..one of the prongs was a little out of line so i got it to plug in now
As of now I have just the gray hms and the larger black hms wired up and the power, ignition turn on, all speakers, etc is all working.....to get the amps to workdo i just wire the RCA cables to the the small square blackhms and plug the RCAs into the sub pluginsor do they need to be tied into the speaker wires that are hooked into the larger black hms

here are some pics of the way I have it wired now......the speakers are all working but i dont think that the amps are doing anything because when i adjust the sub output it doesnt change anything
so do I need to just tie all the speaker wires into both the black plugins and tie the RCA cables to them also?....that would make all the speakers get the same amount of power and i dont think I could adjust fade or balance right?....that wouldnt really matter though

your gonna blow your pre-amp outputs on your deck with the bare wire there, that made me wince literally....... just 3 little things.
first the rca outputs are a low level signal which means that they are VERY suseptable to getting noise through bad connections. Anything dealing with RCA connections needs to be soldered. You have the right idea but the wrong tools it looks like. The FDO3B hrns has the rca's already on it if you do not have a solding iron and know how to use it. Rca's require some delicate solder skills.
2nd - you need to connect the blue , and blue and white wire on the power hrns to the remote turnof your new deck to turn the factory amps on.
3rd - the ford amps like to get a little higher voltage input then most decks like to send out. To fix this you will probably need a little gadget called a line driver. It is basically a low level amp that will boost the pre-amp voltage to 6-9 volts for the amp to be happy.
you could just wire the speaker output of the deck to that small black square hrns, and plug the bypass in. Until you add an amp or aftermarket sub(which is what the 460 lacks) you will be fine.

I wasnt leaving the wires like that I just had it like that while trying to see what was going to turn them on.....yes I have a soldering iron and can use it....I do need to get some more flux though......I was planning on soldering the RCAs since they were to the amps but I wanted to know for sure how to wire it first..by the way do the RCAs need to be a certain mm?
For now I ended up just leaving the bypass one hooked up and I will fix it right later on...I got the car out in the sun and the new paint on the front end is a completely differenet shade of yellow so the guy is going to get it to exactly match for free
but with the new deck it sounds way clearer than the factory..even without the amps working....must be because the mach speakers are decent.....My 1/2 ton dodge has a alpine and my s10 has a sony about the same as this one and they dont sound this good
thanks for the help man
