ttocs, i might need your help
so, ever since my front mid-range died [i'm ordering new ones on the 16th] i've relied on my rear speakers. then one day i realized one side wasn't working [i don't remember which]
so today i went out and i tore [not really] out my back panel carpet-thing. after struggling to get those screws out since that POS slanted [and useless] window, i finally got both speakers out. i figured out it was the right side that was messing up, so i had my stock speaker from the front, and i attached it to the wires that were supposed to go to my rear-right. but, nothing. i unplugged the other one, about to switch to see if both of those speakers were broken when i heard some sound. i turned the volume all the way up and heard the music, which was really staticy and obviously low.
i took out my HU and checked all the connectors, and they were done by my Dad who does this kind of stuff for a living [marine mech.]... so i'd assume he's good at what he does since he's been in business for over 15 years.
what can it be? =\
Please don't say my HU

I have seen more damage done to cars and stereos by certified mechanics that knew what they were doing then by any amature. I am not takin a shot at yer dad installing is just a specialized area of automotive work. Basic audio and video may be over his head just as gaping yer spark plugs is over mine because we have never really done much in each others areas....
ARE YOU STILL RUNNING YOUR COMPONANTS WITH OUT THE TWEETERS?

lmao,
THEY BLEWW REMEMBER?!?!?! I'M ORDERING NEW ONES ON THE 16TH, THIS TIME WITH UPGRADED TWEETERS!!!
they're the rear stock speakers.
should i cut the connection and re-do it?
sounds like you have a short there somewhere the way your amp sounded with the speaker unplugged. Remember the story I told about my deck cutting off because of two wires shorted 3 days ago?

you didn't tell me that story, actually. [not that i remember]
but, the amp is the stock amp with the 'Premium System', and we haven't touched anything on that amp, and why only the right one? [It's actually the left channel, the wires were switched way back, I guess?]
have you considered that the actual speaker might be blown? Poke at it a little and see if the sound gets louder. Sometimes with a blown speaker, when you push it in, you will get sound from it, then when you let go it will go back to that staticy sound you just described. You can also just unplug it from your car and try it out on a home stereo to see if it will make any sound, the ohms will be different, but at least you will be able to tell if it works properly or not.
Did your dad use an adapter to wire your HU to the factory wiring, or did he just cut wires and guess which wire from your HU goes to which wire from your factory wiring? If he used the adapter, being a certified tech, he should of got it right, if he didnt use an adapter... well... what ttocs said
