Default New Sound System

hey guys,
I'm wondering if anyone has put an updated sound system in their s197 body style.I want a GPS with a backup camera ( I was thinking about removing my key hole in the trunkand putting the camera in the freed hole) and two 12" subs and new doors speakers (6x8). I was wondering how muchit should cost (general) how much is to much? and what brands to go with? Any help would be awsome

Head unit and backup camera your talking around $1000

Door speakers (componets and amp) depends what your looking for, but in generalif your on a budget, $200, if you want decent $400, if you want most bang for the buck $550, high end $800-$1000

You dont necessarily need 2-12" subwoofers, if we know more of what your looking for we could make some suggestions to get you what you desire as far as performance, at the best possible price point as well. Bopx construction is a huge factor if you don't feel up to building your own, have one made. I have a box I spent over $200 on and have had $600 woofers in it and $25 ones in it, I have seen people that buy $50 boxes offline with $600 woofers in that box that doesn't sound as good and in alot of cases is the same in terms of loudness as my $25 subwoofer and $200 box. If your wondering prices they are around the same as the ones I gave for your front speakers and amp. On the budget one for subwoofer and amp setup, I would say you'd be building your own if your on a budget.

What is your goal in upgrading? Just more bass, great SQ and no "be heard 4 blocks away"....

What is your budget?

What is done to the car so far? (Audio/Video wise)

Respond to Seight's questions and we will chime in more.

But to add to your remove the key hole thing.

NO.

No, no, no, no, and no.

You're young I assume by that stupid idea.

Do not remove your keyhole.

Mount the camera above your license plate, and under the trunk lid.

It will do fine there.

No.

Stay away from JL audio.

Does anyone know how to use the search feature around here?

JL audio is very over-priced.

They have quality merchandise, but it's not worth the extreme price tag they have.

Like I said before.

You're young.

You are not looking towards the future.

[ul][*]If you remove your key hole you're running a risk of losing it and not being able to hold a higher resell value if the time ever comes.[*]It's not going to be as protected from rain as my idea is.[*]It will be smashed more easily if someone rear ends you.[*]If you ever decide to sell the camera it's an easy un-installation, and you don't have to worry about an open hole.

I thought about doing it for a while myself actually. IMO it's your call, thats a pretty thorough thread and seems very step by step, if you have a great guide like that and you want to do it, you know go for it.

$3k, so what are you looking to get out of your system? You want satellite radio, iPod connection, earth shaking bass, amazing SQ (you have the budget to get great SQ along with a relatively loud system as well), again are you doing the entire install?

Answer those and we'll get you started.

Arc Audio is actually a VERY good brand. Just stay the hell away from the Kar series. They are decent for headunit power or stock stereo but thats it.

Arc Series is their top of the line speaker-wise. For subs I have two arc flatline 12"s in my accord (which is all Arc Audio btw) and the SQ is amazing.

if you want the cam in the keyhole then go ahead and do it. It is all about you man....

I have thought about a back up camera just because I back into my garage(Sometimes around my room mates car in the driveway and then in) just inches away from the wall since my garage is small. I rarely use my key for the trunk between the alarms trunk opener and the glove box, would not be a big deal until the popper dies.......
