Toss the Shaker 500 Head Unit???
Is it a dumb idea to just run a single 12" Subwoofer & Amplifier from the Shaker 500 Head Unit in my 06' GT or simply upgrade the Head Unit and go from there???. Im sure it will be easier to then hook up an Amp-Subwoofer & Component Speakers including my iPod.
Im thinking Alpine for the Head Unit!!
How do the aftermarket Head Units make the Stock Speakers Sound??
Thanks fo any input you may have

what are your longterm plans for the system? Replacing the deck and doing a bit of tweeking on the stock system will make it sound better then it does now, so will the sub.....
Im leaning toward the new Pioneer DEH-P980BT and a Single 12" JLW3V3 powered by a Mono class D Amp. At a later stage I will change out the Stock Speakers, I'ma huge fan of the Polk MMC570 Component Speaker System(Had it in my 98 Stang and it rocked)
Once I have installed all my new goodies I will prolly just sell my whole stock stereo package to absorb some of the cost.

just letting you know the 980BT is last year model. it is a great HU though. it should be updaed with the new 08 models soon. Personally I'd choose another sub and component speakers. Look into Memphis, RE, Phoenix Gold RSDs, CDT Audio, Cadence (surprisingly good comps), Image Dynamics, etc. The ONLY Polk I have heard that 'rocked' were the SR6500. w3s run what 250 retail? for that you can buy a Memphis M3 that will be worlds ahead of a w3.
Thanks for the input, i will definately do some more homework!
I dont want to be heard 2 blocks away, I just want something thats hits hard and responds very quick. I hate that rap-muddy-tooth rattling low bass. I listen to mostly Rock and Techno on XM. The Shaker 500 is not bad by any stretch but I just know it could be much better with a good HU and Amp + Sub Combo
Besides the Pioneer HU, what would you pick if you had 1 choice of a 12" Sub and Class D Mono Amp(I dont mind spendinga bit more for quality)
I appreciate your input
Thanks for taking the time to help me

Sounds like you want more of an SQ setup. Personally this is what I'd get
ID 12 Sub - http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=6225
Memphis Amp - http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2615
Put that in a sealed box around .85 cu ft. You'll still have enough room in your trunk also. Everyone will have different brand preferences though. That setup is right at $600 w/o install and wiring.

I'm running a JBL 1200.1 and 2 ED 130V.2s off my Shaker 500 HU. Sounds fine. I'm now looking to replace my stock 4x6's.
