Default I did it again.....

Well, I decided today would be a good day to put my tweeters into my mach 460 housings.

Everything went great, got everything apart, took out the old mach 460 tweeter, however, couldn't get the plug (the plug that connects the mach 460 tweeter to what im assuming is the front 460 amp), so I cut it.

Put everything where it needs, drilled and set everything up, hooked up the battery, and tested everything. Everything worked perfectly.

Put the door back together, once again, hooked up the battery, re-tested it. Was fine.

However, after 15 seconds, was NOT fine.

The music stopped, and my head unit (Kenwood KDC-MP632U) refused to play ANY music, and the display was completely blank. The unit was still getting power, and I could turn the unit on and off, however, it will not display anything or exhaust any music.

I checked EVERY SINGLE FUSE. Fuse box under hood, under the dash, on my amp, and on my headunit.

I pulled the HU out, and re-connected the ground, switched and constant wires, along with disconnected the speaker wires that were hooked up, maybe thinking cutting that wire would have done something.

Still the same.

I find it very weird that these things are happening, especially after it worked before it went out.

Are these symptoms of a blown head unit? Or is there something I'm missing?

Semi-bump. Tried it again, and heard a slight almost whirring noise coming from the passenger side kick panel. I thought it was my crossover, so I peeled it away...it wasn't my crossover.

Instead, I saw what LOOKED like a ford factory amp, and the noise was originating from that are, with 3 large connections. I copied down the number on the silver box: YR3F-18T806-BA. A ford speaker amp.

So tomorrow, im gonna see if I can find the plug I cut from the wire, strip that and the other part, and solder them, so the amp "sees" that it is disconnected, and hopefully, my problems will be solved.

God if thats the reason, WHO THE HELL DESIGNED THAT???

what year car are you in? This would be the first time I have seen an amp in a kick panel and the first time I have ever heard anyone find a factory amp by the sound it makes. Give a complete list of EVERYTHING from the color of the car(make and model) to the deck in the car as I have no idea what you are doing. Do you really know what you are doing to start stripping this and tapping that? Can you take a pic of this amp?

My actual camera is at my friends house, but ill see if I can get a cell phone pic tomorrow during the day.

Its a black 2000 GT 5speed. Mach 460 system came with it, cassette deck and cd player beneath it.

The deck is a Kenwood KDC-MP632U.

I dont know if its the "amp" thats making the noise, but I have never heard this noise before today when my car is on accessory, and I followed it to that kick panel, it might be coming from under the dash. What is located right under the glove box anyway?

I just cant see how cutting the wire to the stock tweeter could render my head unit unusable, especially after it had been working fine for almost half a minute.

Just to make sure....

You didn't cut the tweeter wire while powered? Have you made sure your wire is 100% isolated from ground?

Use a voltmeter to check the resistances of your speaker wires to make sure they are all around 4 ohms total.

Ya know what, now that im thinking about it, I didn't disconnect the battery. I didn't plan on cutting that wire, becuase I knew I could disconnect it. I got so pissed it wouldnt come out I forgot to disconnect the battery and cut it.

Like I said, ill have to take the door apart again and check everything. I won't be able to check it until Monday though, I work 21 hours between now and monday (im at work right now).

First test the voltage in your power wires to the HU, then test the resistances of the speakers. You might have blown the HU, but at least its a good opportunity to get rid of something kenwood!
