Amp question
Ok.. so just for clarification, on the amp, there are ***** where you can turn up the gain, phase (from 0-180 degrees), subsonic filter (from 20-50 hz), low pass filter (from 50-250 hz), and bass boost (from 0-12 db) - what are these for? I know you can tweak these to get the sound you like, but what specifically do these do so I can tweak them accordingly. Right now I have them all turned to the max.. not sure if that's good or not.. but I need feedback! It'll be greatly appreciated!
No you do not need them maxed, for mine I have mine set just a little less than half way. Although mine does not have subsonic. What is you amp brand and model number and I wil try to get some more specs for you. Also what's you overall setup? (Subs, HU, etc)
i always keep my bass boost half way then control it from the head unit,an low pass filter is at whatever my low pass is set on at the cd player usually around 50 to 80,but dont max them out, could end up burning it up
Thanks guys. I definitely need more input. Ok so I got a Profile AP1000M amp (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...=detailed_info), hooked up to the Scosche custom fit for 05+ mustangs (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...che&tp=113). I also have some Kenwood speakers up front (faded everything to the fronts - don't use the back speakers), all hooked up to the stock Shaker 500 HU. I was contemplating on getting an aftermarket HU, but last car I had got broken into twice, right in front of my house.. so that kinda sucks. But thanks for the help! It's greatly appreciated!
Great amplifier. Maybe one of the best bangs for the buck.
GAIN- to properly set your gain you should have a multimeter, but you can do it by ear. somebody correct me if i am wrong, but generally when you set it by ear, you want to set the gain so that when you turn the volum up about 3/4 of the way you don't hear any distortion and it is good clean sound, no distorion, no sounds like the speakers are "bottoming," etc.
Phase- set the phase to whichever produces the most sound
Subsonic Filter- This eliminates the notes below where it is set. So if you set the Sub filter at 27 Hz, the subwoofer will no play the notes below that point (it actualy will play them but at a much lower volume.)
Lowpass Filter - this eliminates the notes above where it is set, so that the speakers only play the notes below it. Subwoofers ar e only intended to play the lower register so you probably want this one set in between 80Hz and 120HZ.
Bass Boost- Basically amplifies the signal and 9 times out of 10 is worthless. I never use bass boost. It allows for most amplifiers to "clip" sending "dirty" power and that is what makes your subs sound like mud.
I think this is proper. If not someone correct me.

Subsonic from what i understand you use it to eliminate (minimize) the frequency your enclosure is tuned to, if your using a ported enclosure of course. Because you are more likely to damage your woofer if its playing the frequency the enclosure is tuned to.
Low pass, if you have a decent front stage set it between 80 and 100hz, if your running something not so hot or factory, set it at around 125.
Bass boost, leave it at 0.
