97' GT Audio Problems...
I have a 97' GT conv. and am having some audio problems. I am not sure if it is the head unit or the speakers - I have gotten mixed responses from friends and professionals in my area.
In order to hear anything coming out of the speakers I have to continuously hit the volume button up - and then all of the speakers will make a loud 'pop' noise at the same time. Then the music comes out perfect without static or any interuptions. The problem is the music only comes out LOUD and when I lower the volume - the 'pop' noise comes again and the music is very, very soft.
Both the speakers and the head unit in the car are stock. Any suggestions on how I can figure out what is causing the problem? Also, which brands of head units/speakers are the ones I should be looking at for replacements?

**I posted this in the 4.6 forum as well - I didn't notice the audio specific section until after. Sorry for any confusion!**

it sounds like a bad deck, have you tried to give it a technical tap yet?
Sometimes the volume **** can get dirty and make some funny problems. With the car off, try turning it back and forth a dozen or so times and then turn it on and see if it cleaned itself up and works.
