Default Mach 460 Issue

I recently bought a 2001 cobra svt coupe. As you guys probably already know it comes with a mach 460 audio system. The first thing that I did when I got it (like an idiot) was take it to best buy to have them install a pioneer head unit along with an ipod adapter that allows me to plug into the bottom of the ipod. It sounds horrible. The main problem is that the bass is just off, I don't know what it is or how the guy wired it up, but I know that it should sound better than what I'm hearing. I really need some advice on what I should do. I'm thinking about taking it back to best buy and just having them uninstall everything and throw the stock cd player back in there, but I haven't used cd's in years, which is why I needed something that I could plug my ipod into. I've already tried messing with the bass settings in the head unit, and nothing seems to work, it sounds bad no matter what I do. I need help, honestly I don't know a lot about sound systems in cars, all I wanted to do was listen to music from my ipod while I was driving with reasonable sound quality and bass. I also have a 2000 mustang with premium sound with a pioneer head unit installed, and I connect to the ipod through the auxillary input of the head unit, and it sounds way better than the cobra. Any suggestions?

Default RE: Mach 460 Issue

I'm willing to bet that they didn't hook up the amplifiers correctly through the stock mach 460 system..

just last week I had circuit city and they TOTALLY screwed up my whole system...after about $100 in refunds I told them to undo EVERYTHING and put the stock radio back in

it was HORRID

I did a whole crap load of research between these forums (mustangforums.com) and a bunch of other sites I like to use :-)

I have found that they more than likely did not hook up the right harness and that they did not wire correctly..

now one thing you DO NOT want to do...is let them wire directly to the stock speakers (except the tweeters ...but they are already like that)

NO Best Buy and NO CC and NO Walmart lol

goto a pro if you can't do it yourself....it may be a little bit more money....but you want it done right!

Thanks for the help wolf39us. Ok so your suggestion is to take it to a professional and have them rewire it? At this point I don't even want anyone from Best Buy or Circuit City to touch it, because I am convinced from your experience and from the experience of others that they will mess it up even further.

ha hah ah ahahahahaha.

Print up page 2 of my cardomain page and take it into them. It is funny because I had a guy do the exact same thing last week at ANOTHER bby. Maybe you can ask them to make a link to it or something, I really need to find a way to charge them for this info.

You paid for the install they should NEVER let a car leave with bad sound. Also check out the forum sticky for how to get the turn on pop to turn off.

This deserves a new sig.
