Hi everyone, my first post.


Proud owner of a Mustang 06 and decided to upgrade the sound system like most folks seem to be doing after a couple of years with the Shaker 500. I'm actually rather fond of the head unit, but thought it would be good to upgrade the bass with a powered sub-woofer... hence I picked up the Infinity Basslink today (two refurbs actually, for $120... quite a deal).

I would like to install this beast myself, and I have a lot of good gear: #12 wire, ground wire, speaker wire, fuses and splitters... but I have some questions. I plan to use "figure 10" for you experts who have installed this before, it allows me to splice into the rear speaker connectors in the trunk.

The grounding is intuitive, I'll just attach to some bare metal.

The speaker wire, from all appearances, looks as if I'm going to need this four prong "universal adapter", since as we all know there are no RCA outputs for sound at the rear of the Shaker. But I'm beginning to think I could connect two rear RCA wires and splice those to the rear speakers. Which solution is best?

I do not believe there is any way to trigger the remote for "auto turn on", but I believe the speaker wires will supply enough voltage to turn on the Basslink.

The big question is how do I provide a conduit for power? I realize I'll need to connect to the + terminal of the battery for this, but at what access point? I was thinking the passenger side fuse box, but am beginning to question the wisdom of this.

A lot of newbie questions I realize... but I just had great success installing the FRD04-Aux PIE unit for my Creative MP3 player so I wanted to keep the "weekend warrior" in me alive.

the power wire is normally connected directly to the battery, and needs to be fused with in 12" of the battery. I switched the battery terminal connections to make it a little easier(wally world has some good scosche ones for $10) but you can just slap a ring terminal on the wire and connect it to the battery. I am not sure how you mean conduit, that means the metal pipe that wires are ran in to me........

No kidding? I wouldn't have thought that a direct conduit (i.e. wire connection) to the positive terminal of the battery would be proper. I have just the cable (with the fuse as you point out) to do it, then. This just got easier...

But don't I have to drill a hole through the firewall to do snake the cable from the battery to the interior?

Now how to connect the rear speakers...

 

Looks like the subwoofer powers up when a signal from the left rear speaker is presented (just connected the one to see if it would trigger the subwoofer/amp... it DOES). This is good, and it even shuts off after 5 min as promised; even without a remote connection to 12V.

But I'm still not getting any audio... maybe both speakers have to be connected (load balancing?) as a true test? Or perhaps I should go direct to the line-in RCA adapter on the Basslink, but it was suggested that I would need a variable line aux unit between the two.

Where is the sound?
