Default New system for 06 Vert

I just picked up an 06 GT vert mainly for the wife. It has the standard system.I would like to upgrade the system for improved sound and more features. I am looking at a head unit along the lines of a Pioneer Avic d3, Kenwood DDX 512, and a similar Eclipse whose model number escapes me at the moment. I am open to other suggestions on a HU so long as it has Nav, DVD, and will operate an Ipod from the touchscreen.

For speakers I was considering simply replacing the 4 stock 6x8s with some 3 or 4 way Pioneers. I am also looking for suggestions on better options for speakers. Component type that will fit in the stock locations possibly.

I was then going to try the system with just the HU driving the speakers to see if it was acceptable. If not I was then going to add a single 4 channel amp to drive the speakers.I can just go straight to the amp if you are certain that the HU alone wont produce adequate sound quality/volume. I also will consider adding a second amp and sub if necessary.

AlsoI know that sound is subjective but my goal is a nice clean sound with adequate volume for a convert. Not at all concerned with impressing/annoying people at a stoplight with the "boom...boom" coming from my car. Any help in picking the right stuff the first time is greatly appreciated. AndI will be installing it myself. Im very mechanically inclined, just not an audiophile.
