02 Rear Speaker Deck
Hey, I wanted to swap out my speakers this weekend since I should have plenty of time, but first, I need to know how to get the speakers in the rear deck out. I'm not too sure on the door speakers, but it should be similar to others that you just need to remove a couple screws here and there and pop the panel off. On my last car, the rear deck speakers were the worst to replace because I had to remove the back seats and all the panels and all that. Was a pain. I'm hoping I don't have to do that with my 2002 Mustang, but I guess we'll find out. If anyone knows, let me know ASAP please. Oh, I have the Mach 460 if that makes any difference, and the speakers I'm going to put in are Alpine Type R 6x9s and Alpine Type R 5.25s. Thanks.
the rears are easier if you have the mach system. they are attached to the enclosure so you only have to drop the amps, remove the screws and it falls right out.
The door panels are not too bad. Remove the door pull-cups and take the screws out under it. There are some plastic tabs at the front of the door(where it closes) that pull out and don't forget the tweeter grills.
What are you installing?

Going to install my Alpine Type R 6x9s in the rear deck and the 5.25s in the doors, and I might leave one set of the Mach speakers in the doors if there's room, but I don't know yet, we'll see. To power the speakers, I'm going to use my Alpine PDX4.100 amp, which is a 4 channel amp with 100rms watts going to each channel. The speakers will use all that, so it works out good. For my wiring I have RFK4D I believe it's labeled, which is the Rockford Fosgate 4 gauge Dual amp wiring kit. I got the dual amp wiring kit because that was the only kit by them I could find that had 2 sets of RCA cables. They were previously installed in my old 01 civic and they sounded good, better than the car itself sounded... Heh, they even look better than that civic did. Oh, and to complete the partial Alpine system, I'm hooking it all up to my Alpine iDA-x001 head unit. Next up, once I get the cash, I'm going to get either 2 Alpine Type R 10s or 12s with an Alpine PDX1.1000 amp or 2 Alpine Type S 10s or 12s with whatever PDX amp powers them. Can't remember which. Problem with that is that I'll need a capacitor and Optima battery and possibly an alternator to say the least... But that's all hopes and dreams right now, just sticking with the speakers until then.
the rear speaker size is 5 x 7. You can fit a 6.5 or a 5.5 but a 6 x 9 will require some cutting on the car to get them to fit. I would recommend selling or trading yours for a set that you can use that would not need any cutting. If you look around you can probably find a buddy that has a set of 6.5s that they would trade for your 6 x 9s as it is a little bit of a downgrade in size for you. Try to get as good of a set as you can and there will not be much loss of sound.
The 5.5s can fit up front and you could keep the tweeters playing if you wanted.

The only problem I have with swapping my speakers is that I have 1 friend that has a pair of Alpine speakers that would fit. The problem with that is that they are being used and I'm pretty sure he wants to keep it like that. I could just build a little spacer to screw in the top of the deck so I wouldn't have to do any cutting at all. I do have a question about the door speakers though. I haven't gotten around to pulling the panel off and I was just curious... Is there going to be mini enclosure for them? That one on the rear deck was kinda a pain. And if it'd be easier, supposing I keep the 6x9s, I could put them in the doors. I'm just not sure how good it'd be to have the bigger speakers up front because I've always had them in the back. Alright, well, thanks for the help so far.
there are no enclosures in the doors unless you make them.
There is no way to make a "spacer" to allow you to use those 6 x 9's with out trying to rig up a way to hold them. It really isn't in the cards to keep them man. You could do it, it will just not look right and probably not sound good either.
