new setup. need some feedback and help.
i just got an amp, sub, and deck from my friend. i got it in my car and working. the only probablem i have is that i bought an amp wiring kit that was rated for 550 watts and when installing i lost the fuse that came with it. i was able to find one that fit and was the same color but when i get up to about 75% power the fuse blows and the amp shuts off. i was wondering if this is because i don't have the right fuse or something else.
Also the amp i have is this one http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12838
and the sub i have is a kicker compvr. (only 1 sub) i think it is an older kicker compvr because it looks different than the ones i have seen. mine just says kicker compvr on it. anyway i was wondering if this was a good setup and if i should replace anything or upgrade to something else.
thanks

if you look at the on the amp you will see a fuse stickin out of the side of it, and there will be a number rating on the side of it telling you how many amps of power that it can draw under max pull. IF the fuse under the hood is less then the fuse on the amp then yes, it is too small but with that being said it can be dangerous to put a larger fuse in there. What size power wire did you run for the amp? What size is the fuse on the amp? What size is the one that keeps blowing?
the amp wire said 550. i don't know what the original fuse was. all i know is it was red so i found another red one and I didn't see a rating on it but i can go check.
so those 4 amps fuses ratings are actually added, so at 4 x 15 you have 60 amps of current that the amp is capable of drawing. Your power wire will need to be able to supply that much power in order to be able to keep the amp happy so you will need a 60 amp fuse under the hood.

wow. 6 times more power. and i thought it was hitting hard before.
also do you think that it is a good setup or should i add something?

A fuse is a device that blows when excess current is sent through it. Adding a 60 amp fuse will not make your amp more powerful unless it was making zero power because of a blown fuse.

It doesn't work like that.

this was the same problem i had...are you running 8gauge power? that sounds like the problem, if you are running 8gauge then i suggest you get some 4gauge and as that's what i had to do w/my set-up.
