Default need a new sub.. suggestions?

Ok, I blew my sub this weekend. It was a MTX 12" 450w (not sure the RMS) paired with a sony xplod 800w (250 rms) amp. The amp is bridgeable, but when i have sub hooked up in "bridged mode" the amp tends to overheat. I don't know much about audio systems, or how to pick out good amp/sub pairs.

I guess I just got lucky with this one since it lasted me 3yrs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new sub that would sound good with this amp? I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg, if possible.

Thanks for the help!

What was the subs ohm rating (single 4? dual 4? dual 2?)

You have to make sure your wiring your sub(s) at 4 ohms final impendance when your bridging with that type of amp.

So if I were you just keep it simple and go with a single 4 ohm sub.

The amps rated @ 340 bridged so keep it easy and match and get an xplod sub as well, it might not be a top choice for others but your subs only as good as your amp.

Or choose one yourself, look for around 350 rms - single 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm

This guy is saying he has a Sony Xplod amp and your saying No to Kicker??? (scratches his head???)
The amps and users are what blows speakers. This guy needs to get rid of the crappy Sony Xplod amp that puts out nothing but distortion through the subwoofer cone which is def. not a good thing. Another thing with the Sony Amps, they are Mosfet power if I'm not mistaken which changes the current that runs through the coils on a constant basis and makes it fight all the time. This is another bad thing for the speakers. Stick with buying cameras and TV's that are Son because their amps just Blow. Literally!..lol
You can have a crappy speaker and a great quality amp and it will sound better than a good speaker with a crappy amp.

JL 12w3's and w6's are great speakers. However my Infinities blow them out of the water when it comes to all around performance. Lows, mids and high bass frequecies. The JL's are awesome for lows and mids, but lack much of the higher frequencies that are in the alternative music I listen to. Pair a set of JL's to a 500/1 amp and you've got solid clean performance granted your wiring is top notch. You cannot have cheapo wires or it will cause problems.

I have a 10" round Solobaric (old school style 600watts) that has maybe 6months use. It still sits on the shelf in my garage for the past 6 years when it was pulled out of my truck for trade in. I have a JBL 300.1 monoblock amp as well that I paired together. I think this might be a little on the small side for you but I would take $175 +shipping if interested for both amp and speaker w/box.
