Default Aftermarket headunit for Mach 460

I'm sure this has been asked about a bazillion times before but the search feature is broken and I haven't had much luck with google. I want a line in so I can hook my MP3 player up in my car but the mach 1 has the mach 460 audio. As I understand there are three amps. One up front for the tweeters and two in the trunk for the door and rear deck woofers. Is this correct? Do I just need a headunit with RCA out and run that to the crossovers? Where are the crossovers even located? I'm new to car audio so if I'm completely lost let me know[sm=smiley20.gif]

there are a number of ways that you can do it, more then one way to skin a cat...

Page 2 of my cardomain page shows how to integrate an alpine into the mach system, you can also buy a add on piece by peripheral to allow you to play your mp3 player through the factory deck.

Does anyone have a link to the line in addon for the stock radio? I've been looking all over and it seems there was a simple harness for an 00-01 mach 460 system but then in 2004 they changed everything again. Leave it to ford... Could I just get a new headunit, add crossovers, and rewire everything? Or is it more complicated than that?

page 2 of my cardomain page shows how to install a deck into the 460, couldn't be easier and with some tweeking will sound better too.

So you bypassed all the amps? Does the alpine deck have a built in crossover? Are the factory mach 460 amps drastically different from a regular amp? I don't understand why they have to be bypassed.

Buy a new head unit dude.. One that has features for your Ipod to hook up.. Then all you need to do is buy this Wiring harness (www.Metraonline.com Part#70-5519) and a dash kit.. The tweets will hook up through the main radio harness (MAKE SURE YOU ASK THE SHOP FOR BASS BLOCKERS AND INSTALL THEM INLINE FOR THE TWEETERS! Qty. 4... Then the other harness plug (that comes in that metra kit) will plug in(behind radio as well) that'll hook up to the amp turn-on in the main harness (or an on-with-key circuit) that will leave you with 2 RCA plugs that will plug up to your New head unit (Output)... That will give you everything you need to use the factory amps and speakers dude.. They aren't the best quality amps and stuff but they do alright.. I have an Alpine IVA D900 fold out TV and Alpine does give a ton of features and crossover adjustments to help fine tune everything...
Good Luck

Yeah that's what I found but I also read that in 2004 they changed the wiring up. If the amps are really that bad I'll just bypass them. I'm sure any aftermarket deck will power them to my listening levels (not loud)

I bypassed the amp for the tweets and integrated into the sub amps. The amps are not all that different but the door woofers are. They are a standard size but use an 8 ohm woofer rather then the usual 4 ohm woofer. If you replace the door woofers with anything but an 8 ohm woofer(hard to find) the factory amps will have to be bypassed(Easily done when needed).

Yeah.. I agree no worries about bypassing.. If you're just looking for utility (hooking up an MP3) then just buy a new head unit and use all the factory amps and stuff... But if you are looking for volume with great quality then definately bypass and upgrade.. I'm using all the factory stuff right now, but I added the TV (obviously) another amp and a sub. It's not ready for any sound competition but I'm happy with it for now[sm=smiley14.gif]
