Default Hooking up MP3 player to Pioneer headunit

Well it's almost 2009 so I figured it was about time I got an mp3 player.. I was checking out IPOD's but the memory expandability and price of the Sandisk Fuze won me over. Turns out to be a pretty awesome player. Anyways I'm trying to get it hooked up to my Pioneer DEH-4800MP headunit. It has an "IPOD BUS" on the back, if you check out this link you can see the plug I'm talking about and the back of my cd player.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching

It also has an auxiliary input on the back that takes a headphone style jack. The guy at Best Buy (..yeah I know) told me it would be cheaper and work the same to just plug into the headphone jack on my player and run it to that plug. Well I did that and it does work but I have to crank the volume on the player all the way up to get a normal volume level going out of my speakers. Doesn't seem right to me. I'm wondering if it would work any differently to run it through the IPOD plug? They don't make anything but an FM transmitter that plugs into the bottom of the player so I'm stuck using the headphone jack for output. Any help would be great, thanks

what kind of mp3 player do you have or is it a IPOD? Only difference is you're going to have to turn the songs from the mp3 player instead of using the HU if you're using a headphone jack. If you're using an IPOD to the IP bus you can control it using the HU instead of holding it in your hand and flipping through songs. I hope I explained it good enough sometimes I tend to leave things out

Get your glass out Jaymax03 he said it's a sandisk mp3 player not an Ipod.

But anyways, on the back of the Headunit there maybe 2 headphone jacks, right?

One jack should say w/r(wired remote) do not use that one is for the steering wheel control interface if you had steering wheel control for the radio.

The other jack should say aux, you should plug the cable into there. Then you have to turn on that aux function in your menu.

Or you can buy the IP-bus to rca adapter that will give you the aux function. Same thing you will have to turn this function on in your menu.

With your headunit, that is going to be your only way you can connect your mp3 player. Unless you upgrade to a new headunit that has an USB that can support your mp3 player.

I was just wanting to know if feeding the audio signal through the IP BUS was any different than through the AUX jack. I don't like that I have to crank the volume on the MP3 player all the way up when using the AUX jack. I'm hoping the IP BUS is a low level input.

the headphone/aux input is going to be your best bet here. I did it with my ipod with the volume maxed out for 2 years in 2 different vehicles without problem. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't charge the ipod, but I can deal with that.

The only other option I can think of is maybe your head unit might have a usb aux. input, where you would use the usb port in the mp3 player to connect to the stereo. I don't know if the DEH-4800MP is compatible with that device though.

yeah it'll still work the same way unfortunately. I think if you had an ipod though it might work differently and thats if you had an ipod but i don't know about that

Yeah I got it hooked up today and it's basically the same. Oh well I just figured it might save the battery a little to not have to run it wide open all the time.
