Default PATS problem (I think)

I'm posting this both here and in the regular 4.6 thread for exposure..

Car : 2003 Mustang GT

I recently had my keys stolen out of my car. I had the locksmith come by and reprogram two new keys for it. After that was finished he tried to start the car. The engine turned over fine but wouldnt start at all. A few tries later it started doing my recurring problem.

Here is what happens:

You try to start the car and the starter engages, turns the engine maybe 1/16th of a turn and stops. This isn't a normal click as in when the battery is dead and the solenoid clicks. The starter engages, bumps the engine then stops. The locksmith dumbly suggested the battery was low so we put jumper cables on it and voila, car starts. I knew that made no sense because immediately before the problem it was spinning over fine. Well he left that day and a couple of days later the problem happened again. I placed the jumper cables on it and it starts.

We did this for a couple of weeks every other day or so. One day I thought, well it can't be low voltage because the battery is fine. I've already cleaned the cables and posts etc. So I placed the cables on my battery and "sparked" the open ends.....Car then started. It started after I sparked the other ends and didn't even connect them to another battery or car.

Also one day it did this I placed a battery charger on it in the 50 amp start position and that wouldn't start the car.

Again, my battery is fine. My starter is fine.

The theft light DOESN'T flash rapidly during any of this. Once the car starts the theft light goes away.

I've tried unlocking and locking the door several times to no avail.

Anyone else experienced this?

if the theft light is not flashing in all of this then I would have to say that it is not the security system or your light is burned out.

How do you know your battery is fine?

the reason I discounted the battery problem is because it only started when I had my keys replaced. Also, whenever it does turn the engine over..either when the problem doesn't arise, or like when I sparked my cables, the engine spins over just as rapidly as ever, doesn't drag or anything like that.

just for kicks take it into autozone and have the battery checked. The security system would not be dependant on the voltage and the light would be on if it was locking you out. I know that the problems started with the keys but don't go hunting zebras when you see hoof prints and you are surrounded by horses.

I remember one time I had a female customer come in and tell me that I installed her stereo last saterday, and on sunday her headlight burned out. I told her that I did remembered installing her deck but I had nothing to do with the stereo install.

I hate those customers with that dumb problems that have nothing to do with what you installed but figures it was you bc you touch there car last.

I had a lady come in after 6 months and said her radiater wait out bc of the radio I installed. Dont you just love those people.

Like ttocs said go have your battery tested, If it is the org. battery its 5 years old and prob. needs replaced.

Thanks for the help guys. Come to find out my battery was fine. The previous owner had installed an electronic starter inter-loc that had suddenly started malfunctioning. I wasn't aware that this was even installed on my car. I never had the electronic key that came with this so apparently it was always set to disarmed mode. I removed this thing, spliced my ignition wire in the column back together and voila, problem solved.
