Default Subwoofer Size and Placement

Okay, so I own a 1991 Ford Mustang LX Convertible and I'm doing new Alpine speakers all the way around with an amp for the speakers and an amp for the subs i want to do. I wanted to do 2 12inch sonys in a sealed box and put it in my back seat but I was told it would sound like ****. These convertible LX trunks are tiny. Should i change from 2 12s to 1 12 and put it in a skinny box in the trunk or what? It doesnt matter what company the subs are and neither does wattage as long as they are good. I can accomadate for price too.
