Default Stock head unit or aftermarket, price diff?

I got my radio stolen from my mustang last Friday and I need to find out what is the cheaper/best way to replace it.

It was a after market radio that can with the car when I got it, no idea on what brand or anything. I want to say Panasonic or Sony, but don't hold me to it. It had a headphone jack in the front that allowed me to connect my Iphone as a AUX input. I hate FM modulators so I really liked this feature.

Now, before you guys go off and say why get a stock one when you want the aux input jack? Because this is the second time I have had my car broken into and I am going to sell it for a non-convertible one. Also I am short on cash so while tossing a 70 head unit from best buy in there sounds like a okay idea, I don't want to if I can get the entire bezel and everything for 50 at a junk yard.

I need to get the plastic bezel that goes around the radio area and the a/c vents too, so I have to go to a junk yard anyways. SO, do I get a stock one while I am at the junk yard or do I get a after market one anyways?

I would never recomend installing a ford radio in anything. The transport mechanisms have always been a weak point resulting in it eating your favorite disks.

I would recomend a radio with a detachable faceplate, USING THE FACEPLATE, as well as getting an alarm. I have live in phoenix for the last 10 yrs and tempe has had the highest auto theft rate for some time as well as stolen radios but I have never had a problem. I don't take my face with me I just stick it under the seat.

+1

Detachable face is something that pretty much every radio has..... Get an alarm.... Do Not Leave The Top Down.

I did not leave the top down, and it has a alarm but that does not stop people when my driver side window is messed up and you can easily pop it with the right stick.

All the hardware connections are about 99% complete, they did not cut them off so how hard is it to install a radio by your self? Plug and Play?

easy. Read page 2 of my cardomain page.

What kind of alarm do you have and who installed it? If you stick your head under the dash do you see wiring or the alarm? It should have gone off if a door was opened and at least done a warn-away when the window was popped

Scratch the alarm comment, after locking my car and messing with it for about 30mins with no alarm or anything I have come to the conclusion that I don't have a alarm. I quess thats another lie from the guy who sold it to me.

I am going to grab a cheap radio from somewhere and just grab the plastic bits from a junk yard.

Any info on like size or things to look for that I should know?

the dash should be the same from 94-04 if I am not mistaken. The only difference is that there is a double din dash that would require some trimming on the underdash but it will fit.

Thanks, I will look for single din size radios.

Some one told me that you need a wireing harness for every radio or something like that. I read the thing on ttocs cardomain page about using the Mach stuff, which will come in handy (thanks). I am sure that I can figure it all out when I go to the store but I dont want to look like a complete idiot when they ask me about stuff.

Any more advice for me before I go look stupid to the underpaid BestBuy guys?

don't go to bestbuy. go to a real dependable shop.
