hu help
i installed a hu in my freinds car about 7 months ago. yesterday his car wouldnt start i wasnt his dad had his car towed to one of his freinds shops. the mechanic said that i crossed wires and that is why his car wouldnt start. but when my friend got his car back the sound will not come out of the speakers(every once in a while they turn on but turn off after about a min). i have installed about 15 hu's and never had a problem. i wired the acc and ill wires together because he only had one wire that had 12volts with the key on and i couldnt find a wiring diagram for a 1989 pontiac6000. question 1 could me wiring those wires together keep his car from starting? and 2 why wont his speakers work now i went over the wiring and the fuses and they just wont work?
Speakers- Have you tested the speakers making sure one isnt blown or grounding out, that could put the hu in a protect mode and keep it from burning up the hu's amp.
Radio- did the car have a 2 shaft radio in the? Also let me get this straight you hooked up the 12 volt constant(yellow) and the 12 volt acc(red) to the same wire in the car? His car should of had 4 plugs I believe the plug colors are blue, white, and 2 blacks?(a big and a small 2 pin).... Unless you went to the ign harness or to the fuse block in the car and it blow a fuse would I see the car not starting.
Mechanics like to look at stuff like an aftermarket radio or anything like that and say that is the problem bc they dont know what caused the problem.
I had a lady call me up after 3 months and tell me that her machanic told her that from the radio install her ridiator start to leak and we need to pay to get it fixed. I laughed alittle and asked how is that and never got a straight answer from her or her mechanic.

no the consatnt is on a constant from the car the orange illumination wire and the red acc wire are hooked to a switched 12volt source wire but thanks for the advice about the speakers totally forgot about that
Well I would take the illumination wire off the red acc wire.....kinda wondering why you hooked it up like that?
Is the constant wire hooked up to the constant wire at the factory radio harness or did you go somewhere else for that(fuse block, ign harness, battery)

there is no where for me to hook up the illumination wire but the hu works with out it hooked up at all where am i supose to hook it up? and the constant is hooked up to the factory radio harness
The illumination isnt even being used if you have it hooked up to the 12 volt switched wire..... The illumination wire is an "input" to the radio....
How the illumination wire works if you have that wire on the factory harness is when the lights are off that wire will have 12 volts when you turn the lights on the voltage drops with then dims the display on the radio. With you have it hooked up to a switched 12 volt soucre it never does anything bc it is always seeing 12 volts.
