Default New Guy Needs Tutored on sound systems

Hey guys, sorry if I ask lots of stupid questions in the next few days, but I know basically nothing about sound systems. I do however know that I am getting fed up with my Mach 460 system eating my CD's, plus at least one of the speakers doesn't work at all. Basically if I'm gonna tear into this, I would like to get it all done at once, but I'm not quite sure how much I can spend. I'd rather not spend all of my money on audio since, because I mainly just want to listen to the radio, and sometimes plug in my ipod and listen to some music. I was thinking of buying this, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DEHP...e.html?tp=5684 would this be a good head unit for my car? Oh yea, btw its a 2001 GT.

welcome to the forum. The mach isn't a bad system but it has its weak points and can be improved. The deck is a simple swap out, I show a way to integrate into the mach system on page 2 of my cardomain page. It doesn't have to be that difficult, but I tweeked it a bit and was suprised how well it souded.

Do you know if its the woofer(lows) or the tweeter(no highs) that is blown?

GT2010, I go for the pioneer deck you are looking at, dont waste your money with a JVC peice of junk......IMO pioneer or alpine will be the way to got....That pioneer p4000 is a nice headunit for the price...Welcome to the forum.

jvc gives you almost the same features for better price. IMO pioneer and alpine are over rated. been selling jvc for 4 years now and have yet to have a problem with any of them.

JVC and Sony are the most common hu I see come back with problems.....I run pioneer deck in my cars for more then 10 years with never a problem......just my 2 cents.....Plus JVC hu are just very boring looking and dont really have jacksh*t for audio controls(the most important thing the hu should have)...Oh and the JVC Ipod interface has nothing on the controls you get with an alpine or pioneer.

the audio conrtols on the jvc models i told him to look at surrpass what i have ever seen on a pioneer. i used to run a pioneer hu. i never had any problems with it. at the shop the only hu's we have ever had to send back was a couple of kenwoods. not to mention the jvc's hd radio is built in no box to mount no extra wires to run.

Ok sooooo from the specs of the jvc it has a 7 band eq vs that pioneer with 3 band eq....which to alot of people they arent even going to know how to use it to benefit them......The Jvc says it has front, sub preouts.....Pioneer front, rear, sub preouts.
Jvc- LPF/HPF filter doesnt say....Pioneer has the HPF and LPF filters....But wait The JVC does have the HD radio built in woohoo! So what if the pioneer has a ext hd box, Pioneer ipod is night and day better over the JVC.....Bottom line I wouldnt tell my worst enemy to get a Jvc or Volkswagon(just wanted to throw that in bc they are built soooo sh*tty -VW)....IMO....If you like Jvc then good for you, I dont. If I was looking at that pioneer and Jvc's hu I would go with the pioneer. That is my $.02..

Just so the OP knows that Pioneer DEH-p4000 is last years model....The new models just came out a few months back, may went to check them out too.

man you two are lame, you would have though one insulted the others mother..........

I have owned more then a few jvc decks and other equipment and never had an issue with them. I could own another.

Now on the other hand I have never been able to give pioneer a second chance on head units. When my career as an installer started at the big box hell(15 yrs ago) they were more trouble then they were worth...

ttocs you know how I like to just drag things out.....

I have just seen soo many JVCs come back bc they need to reset(cd player locks up)....Beside Daul and jensen, Jvc is the most common I see back, in my almost 10 yrs of the big box hell.....haha. But you know we all have our brands we like....
