2008 Shaker 500: mid-bass/sub recommendations
Hi All,
I currently have a 2008 Mustang GT with the Shaker 500 system. I have installed 2 old 12" Sony XPlod 4ohm subs (yes, I know, *groan*, it's what I had at the time), wired in parallel to a Bazooka ELA500.1 amp, as well as recently replacing the front door 5x7 speakers with Infinity Reference 6812CF speakers. What I am finding is that the front speaker upgrade made a decent improvement in highs, and the bass from the subs is decent, but my mid range is quite lacking at this point. So, I've been thinking about a couple of things:
1. Replace the 2 subs with a single 4-ohm DVC 10" sub; the thinking being the smaller sub will provide punchier, slightly higher frequency response to help fill in the mid range gap, but still utilize my sub amp (2-ohm load).
2. Same as option #1, but a 12" sub; the main thinking being that the 10" simply won't be loud enough, hit the lows well enough, etc (trying to have my cake and eat it, too
)
3. Replace the rear deck speakers with something that has more mid-bass. This option could be combined with #1 or #2. I'm not really into adding an additional amp to help these guys out right now, but maybe in the future if you guys think it would be worth it.
I understand that replacing the HU with something better, replacing the sub amp with something better, buying amps for front and rear speakers, would all be better. However, I am not looking to dump a load of money into the stereo system; I just am getting tired of being drowned in deep bass with no mid range, and am looking for something to help. I've come to realize that I really do not need 2 12" subs, but because they are 4-ohm SVC, I can only get 1/2 of the power out of my amp when running one. If a single DVC 300-400WRMS sub can be wired for 2-ohms, I think it would be plenty to compliment the system, right?
Do any of my ideas make any sense? Does anyone have any other ideas? For instance, I've read a bit about capping the stock 8" door woofers to only produce mid bass; would that also be an option?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I was torn about whether to put it in this or the other section; I guess I chose poorly...
I'm currently messing with the crossover, gain, and bass boost to try to improve the sound; some progress but not fantastic so far. I'll be interested to hear how your addition helps things out.
