Default using the existing wiring?

I went to a local shop and they installed a bass tube for me. The installed it using the stock Mach 460 headunit. The tube is self amplified. Is it possible to use that wiring and hook up my own amp and subwoofer?

if you mean to add an additional sub, then yes/no. The signal could be used but more then likely you would need an additional power wire. What do you have in mind?

Not adding another sub just get rid of the tube and go with like a 10inch sub and some amp.

it should be ok to use their wiring as long as you are not going with a much larger amp that would require a larger power wire. You would probably need to look for an amp with high-level inputs on it or need a line out converter.

I my self have never played with a Bass tube. But if the shop hooked it up and it works then you should be able to hook up another setup of your choice.

As long as you have the following wires going to the tube you should be fine

--- Large power wire going direct to battery
--- Ground cable
--- Small Turn on wire Probably blue
--- RCAs or speaker leads... With out knowing how they hooked up the amp IE the amp could have Hi level Inputs or they may have put in a LOC(Line out Converter) I used one in my 2005 mustang. I taped into the rear deck speakers.

hopefully Ttocs will confirm or correct or totally shot me down. Which is fine to because he is actually helping me out in another thread about replacing a Mach 460

good luck

looks like they ran an 8 awg wire for power and ground which should be enough wire to power a modest to large sized amp with no problems.
