Default Aftermarket deck installation

Alright so im glad to be a part of these forums and would like to contribute what I can, SO HELLO!! my name is Elliot and i own a 1984 Mustang special order GT, by special order i mean the wierdest things, came stock with AC delete, front vents with slot opener, mechanical locks, lockless t-tops, and a whole mix of other fun things, alright, i do know my way around cars and more so around audio, but for some odd reason, I CANNOT FIND A SINGLE AFTERMARKET STEREO INSTALL KIT FOR AN 1984, LITERALLY!!! all i need is the bezel and i can take care of the rest!! if anyone could direct me to a link, or an order form because i feel as if they fell off the earth! the deck is a single din! Thanks for any input

there isn't a kit for it and if the factory radio is in there then you have a LONG way ahead of you.

#1 - the factory radio was mounted to the dash, and then the dash was mounted in the car. You can sometimes wiggle it out from the back after removing the consol and the by gently flexing the dash upwards but on a 25 yr old car needless to say flexing plastic is never recomended.

#2 - ford like to us a common ground wiring system in those cars and these do not play well with modern floating ground radios. This will require locating where the grounds are common and then seperating them or by running new wire to each speaker.

#3 - once the deck is out, and the wiring ran then you will get to cut the dash of your car to fit a modern din-sized radio and make a bezel to cover the gaps.

With all of this being said your car is an installers nightmare and is not cheap if you take to a store. Even still it might be worth your while to look into it depending on how special the car is to you.

thanks for the reply and very in depth, given what you said i have couple of shortcuts,

1. the factory system has been entirely ripped out, no speakers, no wires to speakers, how ever i do have the factory bezzle and the mount around it is uncracked.
2. all the panels are very easy to remove and are partailly not screwed in making a rewire half the battle that it should be.
3.antenna is still wired and accessable.

but in the end basically now that i have a much better understanding (THANKS A TON) i have no problem rewiring all the speakers or making a custom bezzle, and wiring would go as follow since i would not like to use any existing acient wiring.

12v to a constant power
remote to a ignition toggled power (clock or something)
speakers to speakers (obviously)

but as for any grounds

just ground each speaker individually to the frame? along with the deck?

there is no problem tapping the cig lighter for the constant power, go to the chassis for ground on the radio. Almost any radio you find will supply a ground for EACH speaker and that is what you want to use.
