Shaker upgrade

Does anyone know if a Shaker 500 head unit can be swapped out for the base single CD unit? Is it plug and play and/or is it not worth the effort?

This is for a '08.

I swapped my Shaker 500 head unit out for a Kenwood DVD Player/GPS system. Didn't have any problems.
